Baying at the Moon

Yesterday, we spent the day in the country.  The excuse was a friend's surprise birthday party - and yes she was totally surprised!  And after the sunset, as we were leaving the farm where the festivities were held. I did one of those "Stop the car!  Now!"  And I was able to get this shot of the full moon over Maryland, somewhere very close to Sugarloaf Mountain.

Here's what it looked like a few hours earlier from the back of an ATV:

I took both of these shots with my Nikon Coolpix, which has a totally amazing zoom lens, by the way.

Patricia,  That is a shot worthy of yelling ... "Stop the car! Now!"  Rare moments to see and experience.  I have always been mesmerized by the moon.  Glad to hear the surprise was actually a surprise!

Full moon is actually tomorrow night but this is an awesome shot just the same.  Good to stop and bay once in awhile.

The second photo really shows details of the moon.  Cool picture!  Will you be viewing the transition of Venus on Tuesday?  Perfect photo opt.!

I have some real Boy Scout memories of Sugarloaf Mountain.  December 1967 - it was 10 degrees, and snowed 15" during the camping trip and they could not get us out!  I have never been so cold and thought we were all going to die!

Those are both really great shots. Clever of you to capture them both just hours apart. ATV, huh?!

So tonight I'll have to set up my tripod and see if I can get a real full moon shot!

And Jay, I can just see you as a little kid all bundled up in the freezing snow!  If they tried that today, the scout master would probably get sued!

And we were at a friend's farm.  She has set it up as a horse trial run.  It's really pretty cool, and there are bunches of ATVs that they use during events.  We're planning to go out and volunteer for upcoming Maryland Horse Trials.

Both shots are great (it's hard taking moon photos), but I especially love the day time moon. Good job. Sounds like you had a super getaway, too! Good to hear!
