On June 5th-6th, Venus will appear as a small dark dot and will travel across the sun's face for the last time this century. The next time this event will occur is December 11, 2117. Most of us on Active Rain who live in North America and Hawaii, will be able to see the transit which will start sometime in the afternoon. Here on the West Coast the approximate time will be 3PM. The farther West you live, (Hawaii), the more of the transit you will see. From land, northwestern North America (Alaska, northwestern Canada), the Arctic, most of Greenland, Hawaii and many islands of the Pacific can view the transit from start to finish.

In order to view the transit of Venus, you must use proper eye protection, or risk blindness and permanent eye damage.
