What a glorious day is was in Washington, D.C. yesterday! My husband and I had great seats for the Washington Nationals vs. the Atlanta Braves game - in the shade, in the breeze, end of the row, and in the outfield where we enjoyed a view of the entire field. The Nationals lost, but they started off the game with homers from their first two at bat in the first inning. Much fun!
Baseball fans who live in Crofton, Maryland, can easily attend major league baseball games in either Washington or Baltimore, and nearby Bowie is home to a minor league team. (No excuses for watching baseball on TV instead of live in the stadium!)
We took the Metro from New Carrollton - a mere $6 round trip, and no cost for parking at the Metro Station (on a Sunday). If you live in Crofton or anywhere in the Metropolitan area and haven't yet attended a Nationals game, I highly recommend it.

Sounds like a pretty good time! I love baseball games! From the little T-Ball leagues to the farm teams to the big leagues!
Hi Margaret, live baseball is pretty exciting, the Nationals have put together a pretty good team they should be fun to watch all season.
Sounds like a wonderful day - we have a semi-pro baseball team - the Harrisburg Senators in our area too!
Hello Margaret! I went to a major league Phila Phillies game a few weeks ago with my family. Going out is fun! We do it once or twice a year.
Margaret, I'm sure you had an awesome day! I still haven't went to attend either of our local minor league games. I'm looking up their schedules right now!
Sunday...my clients went to the game while I did the Open House. And 2 home runs in the first inning....
Amazing.
Margaret,
I'm going to the Nationals game tomorrow night versus the Mets. Taking my wife and some clients who recently bought their home. Glad you had a good time!
Margaret~ I'm a baseball fan and while I do like going to the park (especially when you have perfect seats AND perfect weather) I do enjoy watching at home. You get to see everything, plus replays and you get the commentary. Plus the seat is ALWAYS pefect and so is the weather! LOL!
Margaret, I am originally from Chicago. My husband is a die-hard Cubs fan. I, however, am not meant to go to baseball games. It is the longest sport ever. It sounds like you, on the otherhand, really enjoy the sport. How great that you are able to take advantage of so many options to see games.
nothing like a day at the ball park. I am a big fan of minor league baseball.
The Nationals are doing great this year...I must've imagined it was a nice day at the park!
Seems like ages ago when I went to opening day. My daughter has a partial season ticket plan and makes it to quite a few games. How was the crowd at the metro after the game?
Margaret, You got to watch my favorite team play (hint, it's NOT the Nats). The DC Metro is fantastic for getting around and for only $6? What a bargain. No hassle trying to find and pay for parking downtown either.
That sounds like a terrific afternoon. The sight of a major league baseball field still makes my stomach jump. The Nationals are major league, aren't they? Watch out for the SF Giants this year. We're starting to gel. Best wishes.
Margaret, I take my two young grandchildren to the Ranch Cucamonga Quakes games...the minor league team for the California Angels...if you haven't seen a AAA team, it is the best...their stadiums are much smaller, the children have more fun, and the seats are much less expensive...so if the children want to leave, it's not much of a dent in the pocketbook...it takes about $200 for a family of four to the LA Dodgers games...not for me...
Nice picture and post.
Hi Margaret, thanks for taking me back to the ole ball game. I lived in Linthicum for 28 years and could almost hear the Orioles.
I'm not sure if I am suppose to say "great post" or "sorry!"
Richie, that sounds awesome! Unfortunately, we didn't get a single thing to eat or drink at the game this time. But we still had a good time.
Fernando, and here we are with a second great weekend in a row!
Emily, Metro can be a great way to get around, but our car had no air conditioning on the way there. It was pretty crowded and steamy, but fortunately the air conditioning did work on the way home.
Karen, baseball is not my sport either. But once a year... We had tickets through our college alumnae office, but never saw a soul even wearing the tee-shirt. Oh well, we did have great seats and enjoyed the outing.
Sandy, it's great to live within an hour of DC and Baltimore - so many things to do!
Eric, the Nationals did seem to be doing better than they have in previous years. Or maybe those two home runs in the beginning of the game gave us a false sense of that. LOL.
Anthony, we have enjoyed many outings to Wolf Trap but that's much further for us, coming from Maryland, and we hate the hour long wait to get out of the parking lot with an hou+ drive after that. And it can be VERY hot there! We prefer Pier Six in Baltimore, where it tends to be more breezy and you can take a cool drink to your seat.
Mike, we used to enjoy he Orioles (again, we can get there by rail and parking isn't an issue), but they've gotten worse and worse under the current ownership. No fun any more - especially for someone who isn't a baseball fan. I'll bet you were here back in the days when we did enjoy an occasional game.
Doug, they are...and that's one of the things that made the game enjoyable.
Kim, as I mentioned earlier, I'm not a baseball fan either, but I do enjoy the experience once in a while. People watching is a big part of that. And our seats were so ideal... that contributed a lot to the great day!
Hannah. It was! We made note of where these seats were located so we can try to get something similar in the future.
Carey - Then you would love living in this area... Plenty of baseball and other pro sports, plus the Bowie Baysox.
Adrian - Those two homeruns during their first two at-bats got the day off to a great start. Too bad they lost, but we left at the top of the 9th inning to avoid a Metro crush so we didn't see the bitter end.
Joy - We are literally five minutes from the Bowie Baysox, but tend to take them for granted except for the annual fundraiser for the Crofton Regional Community Center. That's usually a good excuse to attend.
Erica - The weather was great, and that always helps. LOL. ('Hope your mom is doing okay.)
Eric - If nothing else, it will give you a blog topic for a day.
Claude - Hope you had some open house visitors, and I hope your clients enjoyed the game.
Brian - I haven't been to a night game there, but it should be fun. Maybe next year for us. Or maybe we should have an Activerain gathering at the ballpark.
Donna - I hear yah! I feel that way about a lot of events, too. Never yet attended an inauguration or big event in D.C., even though I was born here and lived in the area most of my life.
Tammie - I do NOT enjoy the sport, although I did enjoy going to this game. LOL. We were in the last row backing to the concourse, so we had the added attraction of watching the fans go up and down the aisle. I do love people watching, and there's no place like a baseball game for that.
Gene - Me too, because it gives people a chance to see a live game without busting their budget. The Bowie Baysox have so much going on - kids club, senior club, and all kinds of special events to attract people to the ballpark.
Bob - I've never had such great seats. No one behind us - just the concourse - plus cool and breezy. Who wouldn't enjoy any event in that environment.
Alan - We left at the top of the 9th, and it was crowded enough. I can't imagine a half hour later.
Liz and Bill - It's a relatively short walk to the stadium from the Metro, and parking is free on Sunday. What a deal!
Lloyd - Hoenstly, I don't follow baseball, but I do understand the Nats are on a roll. Doesn't matter to me, since I'm not really a baseball fan, but I had a great time anyway.
JoAnn - I hear yah! The CUA Alumnae Association had seats for $20, so that wasn't bad. If I had a family of four, however, I'd probably take them to the Bowie Baysox.
Bob - Those Orioles are not what they used to be. No fun to attend a losing game. Even their beautiful hanging flowers from Homestead Gardens are gone. Just not the same luster, whether you're a fan of the game or the experience.
Tom - Neither one! You're supposed to say, "Hi, Stranger, nice to see you again."
