Visualizing is a way of knowing: it is a mode of generating knowledge... How we see determines what we see; and how we see is embodied in our mental images. By virtue of their condensing impulse, images have a kind of power that abstract ideas can never have. (Nicholson 2003)

Pinterest has all the elements for a right brain, visual thinker. Images, pin boards, minimal word content and high quality visuals that makes staying on the site feel like you are skimming through virtual pages of Dwell, Home Decor and Home by Design all rolled into an online visual format. The difference is that Pinterest is a social networking site that allows you to connect with your social community and integrate your online experience in one "scrapbook" site that lets you "pin" static visual experiences. Pinterest can be thought of as a virtual billboard fed by consumer "likes" or "pins," directing you to relevant stops on the Internet highway.

Presentation to Reston Interfaith
 
Thank you so much for your support for "A night at the races" to benefit Reston Interfaith.  As a result of your efforts and support, we raised over $18,000 for a truly great cause.  We are going to be presenting reston interfaith with a check on June 8th at 11 am at the Embry Rucker Memorial Shelter next to the Reston library.  You are welcome to join us, if you would like to be part of that ceremony.

I'm sure we are all aware that it's a Presidential election year here in the USA!  The run to election day is accelerating to what's sure to be a dramatic finish.   What qualities are YOU seeking in a President?

Recently, I was elected President of the Parents' Association at my children's school.  I have to admit, I felt an unexpected thrill at the opportunity to take on this new leadership role.  It will be exciting to influence decisions about the school's future growth, and to be part of creating a strong and fun school community.

Don't Miss out on Freddie Mac $500 Home Warranty Credit
Beginning May 25, 2012, HomeSteps will offer a credit at closing for the actual price of a home warranty up to $500 for owner occupant offers.

Here is how it works:

  • The home warranty incentive must be submitted with the initial purchase offer.
  • The home warranty incentive is only available for owner occupant offers (primary or secondary home) submitted on or after May 25, 2012. Investor purchases, auction sales, sealed-bid sales and bulk sales are ineligible for this incentive.
  • The home warranty incentive is valid on any HomeSteps home for sale in the United States (including PR, VI and GU).*
  • Under the home warranty incentive, HomeSteps will pay for a home warranty up to $500. Seller's contribution is for a home warranty up to $500. No credits will be given for any unused amount nor will the credit exceed $500 even if the price of the home warranty is greater than $500.
  • Credit will not be paid directly to buyer as a reimbursement but instead be dispersed by the closing agent to the buyer's home warranty company.
  • HomeSteps reserves the right to remove any property from this incentive or end the incentive at any time. The home warranty incentive will not be paid if closing does not occur for any reason. Any dispute over the payment of a credit or fee shall be resolved by Freddie Mac in its sole discretion.
  • The home warranty incentive is void where prohibited by law or applicable MLS rules. Selling agent is responsible for determining same prior to making offer.
