We encounter odd stuff everyday in this business, but the latest one I'm getting are Buyers who call me on a listing I have and for MY convenience want me to just give them the combo code or let them pick up the electronic key to allow them access into the property.

Of course, I ask and they say they aren't working with an agent.  I then ask them the usual qualifying questions and about scheduling a time that works for me to show them the home.

Frustrated, the buyers state "well....other agents have just been giving us the code or key to make it more convenient".  What????? 

Big Fat NO NO NO NO NO!!!!  When I'm unwilling to give them the code or key, they become unwilling to make an appointment to meet with me.  Their interest in the home quickly fades. 

Just be cautious out there.

You've got to be kidding me...agents really just give out a code?  I'm sure not, these "buyers" were just making that up I hope.  Talking about setting yourself up for a lawsuit.

Kate:  Can't say I believe these buyers about getting codes from agents either, but I sure hope that if any agents are doing that...they STOP!!!!!! before it's too late.

I won't show something without a signed buyer rep contract.  Many buyers have some weird notion that they will save money if they do not use a Realtor.  I figure if they won't sign a buyers agreement they aren't too serious about buying anything.

Hard to believe any agent would just turn over their key to a buyer, especially one they don't even know

Our local board does not allow us to loan our key to ANYONE, not even another Realtor®.  What are these agents thinking (or not)?
