Lake Oswego Embraces the Art Work of Simon Toparovsky
Lake Oswego is a city located just a few miles south of Portland proper. In the olden days, the City of Lake Oswego was a "get away" for Portlanders who wanted to experience the lake.
"Passenger traffic hit its peak in 1920 with 64 trains to and from Portland daily. Within nine years of the peak, passenger service ended and the line was used for intermittent freight service to Portland's south waterfront up until its abandonment in 1984." ~~ Wikipedia.org
Now, with many people calling Lake Oswego home, in recent years Lake Oswego had a rejuvenation of their Downtown area and the art work of Simon Toparovsky was purchased among many other established artists.
Simon Toparovsky's wonderful sculpture Fortuna is displayed outside one of my favorite bakeries which is located in Millenium Park Plaza, St. Honoré
Simon Toparvosky Fortuna in Lake Oswego
The word "Fortuna" is Latin meaning fortune or luck. When used as a noun, Fortuna was the name of the Roman Goddess of fortune and the personification of luck, be it good or bad. Fortuna is also known as the Goddess of Fate. Simon Toparovsky's Fortuna art work displayed in Millenium Park Plaza in Lake Oswego embodies the character of fate and luck.
If you notice, Fortuna does not have any arms. I would love to ask the artist what inspired him in this manner? Perhaps, even Fortuna relies on fate and luck in her fortune and does not make it for herself?

How Simon Toparvosky Got to be in Lake Oswego
The Art Council of Lake Oswego has a tremendous taste. It was their selection of Simon Toparvosky art to grace Lake Oswego. Their Lake Oswego art purchases, both prior and upcoming, are found in the most nicest places in Lake Oswego. The Art Council of Lake Oswego was the organization behind bringing in Simon Toparovsky to the residents, friends and neighbors of Lake Oswego.

That is a lovely sculpture, and a nice water feature as well. I couln't help but think of the small town "Fortuna" in Northern California while I was reading your post.
