I SAY NOT!

Placer County Strawberry FestivalCan't believe that the Placer County Strawberry Festival is OVER!

While on vacation there was an article in the Sacramento Bee that the Strawberry Festival ends after 17 year run.

i am sick! Who do I complain to? Was there vote? Do folks not like strawberries, anymore?

According to the article, rising costs and declining attendance has ended Roseville's Strawberry Festival.

Back in 2005 there were over 65,000 to 70,000 visitors that attended the festival and do to rain the last two years in April when the festival occurs, the attendance dropped to about 20,000. Since this event takes place using volunteers in  order to raise money for non-profit organizations, the powers that be were finding escalating costs in running the festival with little or no money for the non-profits.

Originally, the Strawberry Festival started in Old Town Roseville and was a one day event versus a 3 day event. The main purpose back then was to help bring in business to the historic district of Roseville.

Change they say is good but in this case it's bitter sweet. I loved the Strawberry Festival and it will be sorely missed.

For those who missed my pictures and article this past year about the Strawberry Festival, read Roseville Strawberry Festival for Placer County.

Kaye, it is sooooooooooooo disappointing! Now, I'll just have to add another Festival to my barrage of Festivals. But I will miss those big, sweet strawberries in every imaginable combination.

You're right, it's un-American!! What a shock to read when I returned from Hawaii.

Did you ladies get a bunch of rain from this horrendous storm?

Roberta, you can see how I feel now about this in January...can you imagine my dismay in April when it's strawberry time!! I quite agree...someone should have just passed out umbrella and kept the strawberry festival.
