If you've driven past the corner of Tryon and Walnut in Cary, NC lately, you may have noticed a new shopping area slowly coming to life. The signs have been there for close to a year now - "Walgreens coming soon".
For residents of this stately section of southeast Cary, the classic brick features are a welcome sight. Cary residents living on Holly Springs Road between Ten Ten Road and Hwy 1 now have some additional shopping and eating options, whether they're on their way to work in the Research Park Triangle, or enjoying a long weekend walk.

Tryon Village is a brand new strip mall at the corner of Tryon and Walnut Street (right near where Walnut turns into Holly Springs Rd).
Architecturally, the entire Tryon Village strip mall is very pleasing to the eye. Because it's set into the corner, you can actually see two angles at once, with Brueggers Bagels taking the hot spot in the middle, and little shops lining up on either side and around the back.
I checked out the bagels, first - hot from the oven, in a warm, relaxing atmosphere that's very family-friendly with lots of tables and chairs and sunlight through all the massive windows that make the place so inviting from the outside. There was quite a line already - the place is so easy to spot from the major intersection that it isn't going to take much word-of-mouth to keep it hopping.
Tryon Village continues with Starbucks, just a few doors down, past Sun Com, Jimmy John's and Jill's Beach had the hot white chocolate mocha I was craving. It's just a small shop, but has the usual little tables, a drive-through, and friendly staff. It's a bit hard to see the drive through at first, but circle around the building and you'll find it.
On the other side of Brueggers at the Tryon Village shopping area is Rita's (slushies and such,) Impressions Hair Salon, and on the far corner, YoHo Asian Bistro, which smells yummy.
There are about four or five shops still available in the Tryon Village shopping center, with signs that say to call MidAtlantic Properties at 919 941 9747 for information. I suspect they'll be snapped up soon, as this intersection is extremely busy, and the near-by established neighborhoods are prime customers for these sorts of conveniences.
Finally, a cute and convenient 24-hour fitness center, right on the edge of an established Cary neighborhood!
You might not spot Snap Fitness 24-7 right away, because the strip mall is set into a square, all accessible from outside, with some additional stores across the parking lot. The fitness center is over on the right side when you're facing the Tryon Village shopping complex.
With new year's resolutions in mind, I wandered inside the fitness center (no pool, but lots of weight training and attentive service) on the heels of my bagel and coffee splurge. Definitely a place I could spend some time in.
Walgreens is now open! Set a little further back from the intersection than its prime competition, CVS Pharmacy, which went on the opposite corner of the Tryon Village intersection about a year ago.

Walgreens offers many services besides the usual prescriptions, including a fully staffed photo lab. Check out the photo center online - just about all your photo orders can be picked up within a few hours after you choose which prints you want from the comfort of your living room. You may want to check out the photo window clings as well - I've got a few cute shots safely clinging to my office window.
And don't miss the brand new, sparkling Harris Teeter!
They have a terrific bakery, fresh seafood, a salad bar, and a yummy deli that includes hand-prepared sushi.
Give them a call at 919-233-3476 if you need a cake or party tray!

Next to Harris Teeter is another fitness center, It Figures, and Pacific Nails, along with more shops that are yet to open, including a pizzeria. I'll be checking out It Figures on a future trip, but was especially interested in the 24-7 availability of Snap Fitness.
What a fun little strip mall! It will be interesting to see who moves in, next! This should just make the neighborhoods nearby even more desirable - neighborhoods such as Camden Forest, Wynston Ridge, Lochmere, Lochmere Highlands, The Bluffs, Yates Mills, and many more on both sides of Tryon as well as down Holly Springs Road. If you're new to the area, check out this map to find the location of the Tryon Village shopping center at the corner of Tryon Road and Walnut Road.
