Alpine Voters - How are you voting on Prop H Tomorrow? Are you voting in favor of Alpine Schools

Do you think that supporting our schools with a bond costing each homeowner approximately $48/year is a good investment in our town?

Tomorrow is California's Primary typically since it actually isn't the presidential election we have a lower turnout than the November's election day, but as always there are lots of things that need to be voted on. Are the people of Alpine going to make the time to make their voice heard? Have you scheduled your election time?

For the citizens of Alpine Proposition H can have a big impact on our schools and the quality of education that our kids will have. With the recent budget cuts class size has gone up tremendously while budgets are still being slashed. Currently almost the entire budget is eaten up in salaries, before it can even get to things like equipment, labs, maintenance let alone basic supplies like paper and toner. The teachers are doing a great job, but there was an obvious difference in classroom behavior with the larger classroom sizes this year.

Proposition H will allow us to fund the extra programs, allow us to be more independent from utility costs, upgrade our classrooms and help with teacher salaries. To me that seems like a pretty good return on MY $48/year investment. Of course in all fairness I have 3 children who will directly benefit by the improvement of our schools. However I also do my part to improve our schools and our whole community, I like most other parents volunteer in the classrooms, participate and work in the fundraisers and do anything we can to make our schools and the community as a whole stronger and a great place to live.

As a Realtor I also see the correlation between strong schools and higher property values. Alpine has long been a strong contender in the county for our school system, however we have been falling in the ranks as of late. To be clear it is not that Alpine's scores have been dropping, its that other schools districts are just getting stronger. They have been investing more and in turn we have been losing children in our schools (further decreasing our annual budgets), while some families still live in the community and just attend other districts many have been moving altogether since the schools are no longer worth the extra commuting time for the parents. When Alpine schools are no longer drawing families to move here for our schools our housing market suffers. This bond measure will allow Alpine to continue to compete and improve allowing us all, even those who do not have children in the school system to benefit by a strong housing values.

Please understand that this is my opinion and I invite you to do your own research on Prop H to help you decide how you feel about Prop H and how it can benefit our community.
