Delta County, Colorado Fishing Report, Carson Lake, Grand Mesa. For me it was a good day on the lake. Like most of the lakes on Grand MesaCarson Lake is surrounded by woods. I was catching 8 to 10 inch brook trout about every third cast. The color on these fish is amazing, and they are all fat and strong and put up a good fight. I was fly fishing with a number 12 Copper John, and flies seemed to be the only thing working. The bait fishermen weren't catching anything.

The mosquitos are just starting to come out. They should be a factor in another few days, so bring your deet. There are still patches of snow in the woods, so if you are planning to hike to a more remote lake, keep this in mind. Carson Lake is the water supply for the city of Grand Junction, so no craft are allowed on the lake. Grand Mesa, in Delta County, Colorado is just starting to gear up for the summer. The visitor center is open 7 days a weeks from 9AM to 5PM, and A and G Anglers is located in the same building, and this is a great source for forgotten gear and information.

Carson Lake is just one of 300 Lakes on Grand Mesa in Delta County, Colorado.

That looks like a nice supper, Debbie.  I wish I could fish.  But, the man of the house never wants to go...and I don't know enough to catch anything anymore on my own.

Thanks for the video, too!

Hi, Suzanne. You guys have a lot of fishing opportunities in your area...land of 10,000 lakes. Grand Mesa only has 300.

Hi, John...There are over 300 lakes in this area, so it's about the only place in Colorado where mosquitos are a big issue. We mostly catch and release.

Hi, Don...I was the one fishing. I outfished everyone that day. When I get to Minnesota, you will have to take me fishing. The reverse holds true. When you get to Colorado, I will take you fishing.

Hi, Joan...It was a fun day on the lake. It didn't matter the fish were small. They were fat and fought really hard. This fish and all the others went back into the lake. I like trout, but this area can get a lot of fishing pressure and we like to put the fish back.
