What started as an Ice Cream Social in 1967 has since become one of the most fun and amazing weekend in the Texas Hill Country. Believe it or not, Berges Fest began as a simple ice cream social. It was originally It started as a way for local organizations an opportunity to raise money for their organization.
The Lions Club and the Boerne Chamber of Commerce along with a handful of volunteers and $500 kicked off the first Berges Fest. They were helped by Wurst Fest of New Braunfels, one of the oldest festivals in the Hill Country.
A contest was held to name the festival and the winning entry was
submitted by Anna Voges. The Miss Berges Fest competition was
and still is held on Friday night.
The Lions club conducted a contest to select a name for the proposed event, and if memory serves, Anna Voges came up with the winning moniker.
The event featured a free street dance, a Mexican food booth and music by the Boerne Village Band and the U.S. Air Force Band. A fatted calf wasn’t sacrificed for the event, but one was auctioned off. Events now include wheel barrow race, Daschund Race, live music, a carnival, food booths and beer!
The initial investment of $500 was recouped, so Boerne was able to have the funds to start the next year's Berges Fest. Obviously it has done well enough that the volunteers and organizations keep on putting it on every year. So come on over and help support our little festival and have some fun!

Amy- Hi. The Berges Fest was the first event in Boerne that our family attended. I can't believe in the next coming weeks we have been BOERNEites for one year. It is true, when one is having fun, the time sure does fly! Take care....
