Historic Homes of Denver: Tips at Altitude - Light Rail Service

Light Rail in MinneapolisI flew to Minneapolis today to attend the wedding of my best friends son this weekend.  I arrived at the Minneapolis/St. Paul airport at about 1:00pm.

I picked up my luggage, and walked to the Minneapolis Light Rail stop at the airport, got on the train, and for $2 bucks rode all the way to downtown Minneapolis to the Government Center Stop.  My mom works for the Hennepin County Sheriffs office, and she met me at the light rail stop and we walked less than a block back to her office.

This really got me thinking!  Denver has been talking about putting a spur out to DIA (Denver International Airport).  After today, I think that is a spectacular idea.

It was easy, inexpensive, and honestly, if/when this is an option in Denver, I truly believe that it would drastically cut down the amount of traffic that heads out to the airport each day!

Denver Light RailThat would mean a serious decrease in automobile emissions, and frankly, it is just a heck of a lot easier than getting into the car and driving yourself to the airport.  Not to mention that parking at DIA went up to $7 per day at the Pikes Peak Lot.

Denver Light Rail, let's get this project under way and finished!  We need a spur to DIA, pronto!

It would be a great idea for venture capitalist.  Just keep the government out of that project.  Do no want any more taxes for this type of project!! Charge the appropriate fees to make sense of this!

Kerry...it really is a great idea...it will allow people to arrive in Denver (DIA) and ride all the way to Highlands Ranch if they want (through Union Station). The light rail is clean, fast and on time. They would also be able to fly in, bring ski stuff and head up to Winter Park (through Union Station)...maybe add a night or two at one of Denver's beautiful hotels....all without renting a car!

Dan,

I doubt that a venture capitalist would do this.  The talk around town is for there to be bonds sold to finance the spur, which of course would raise taxes.  But DIA is quite a bit out of town, I still think it would make sense.

Thanks for your comment.

Jeff,

Yes!  Going through Union Station on all of these trips would give passengers an opportunity to see the restoration of Denver's Union Square AND the lovely Lodo area of Denver.  Great comment, thanks!
