Wow Don, why would someone do something like this. The poor guy will think twice if he does get jail time. I also hope there is a fish fry for a good cause now.
Is this guy a local and should know the rules? It's crazy that people mis-use our natural resouces. He deserves what he gets.
Don, people who do stuff like this make my head hurt. If he's been caught and warned in the past, maybe jail time will do him some good?
I don't understand the motivation for doing any of that. Am I missing something?
Don, this guy should go to the slammer! And, like you, I hope the fish in the freezer find a good home.
Don, this is what I would call abuse. I don't fish, because I can't face hurting them...I know, I'm SILLY (I used to fish with my dad when I was a kid and mine ALWAYS swallowed the hook and I would cry when they laid on top of the water after my dad would do his best to save them AND the hook....no more).
I went back and read your first story. What a piece of work this guy is. So glad the fella pursued it and he's now going to face charges.
I hope that some homeless people may have some fish dinners coming their way.
This was a real tragedy for Pelican Lake and since it is the biggest lake in our county, it is often the most fished. His $3,000 fine won't even cover the cost of restocking the lake, although the auction of his boat, trailer and motor might, especially if his relatives attend to buy it back for him.
Good morning, Don. I don't know why people do things like this. We had an incident over ten years ago, where two people poached a bunch of trophy trout from a catch and release only stretch of river. Their fines were heavier. They lost their fishing priviledges in this state for life and I believe the fine was 10,000.
I hate people who hoard like this. And, I think he was hoarding. I am so glad that conservation officer caught him.
Don -- thanks for the follow-up to your original post. Our actions have consequences - choose wisely.
I'm glad they got him. Not lets hope that they won't pleade the case and reduce the fines and the sanctions. Keep us posted!
Bill, I am not accusing any tribe of the crime, I am just reporting that the local authorities found similar seining nets that a tribe has used in the past to "harvest" fish in that manner which they have the authority to do. But, I am glad that you caught that, and that I could address it here.
Don- I just went back to read your first post and the number of fish he had is disgusting! My parents live on the Chesapeake bay and we always hope for more enforcement of limits. I'm glad your area is enforcing it.
I wonder how the tribe got away with it but it is sad and seems like a lot of waste.
Don, this does seem senseless and glad you shared this story!
Don - This chap doesn't seem to prescribe to the philosphy in life of "give back more than you can ever take." And I don't have a whole lot of time for folks like that.
