All the talk about lousy housing national market, gloom and doom does not apply everywhere in the nation. Blanket negative reports hurt the industry as a whole nor do they reflect all corners of the country. In Northern Maine, we are not selling as a rule $399,900 in town homes but $39,900, $49,900, $59,900 homes. What's wrong with them? Nothing ! They are located in a slower paced, lower overhead cost of living location
that is far enough away from your major cities that the spikes up and down in those cities does not hurt this area. The unfair advantage for Maine brokers, agents, salesman is low low cost real estate, no crime, no traffic, no hassle living with a simple life style. It is not like this in other places in the country. Also, the Maine potato farmer use to have the same unlevel playing field when going up against his neighbor farmer in Canada that enjoyed an up to 40% exchange rate on the dollar not long ago. That situation has changed with a stronger Canadian dollar and the ability to sell 10 and 20% cheaper due to a favorable exchange is gone today. Markets within a market that a 15 second sound bite on the media does not get covered. It becomes the news within the news. Can't believe the prices...and feel like a kid in a candy store ? Not from Missouri but you have to be shown...okay. Here is a home you can buy for $16,900..on a brook to top right.
Need more convincing? Okay, another one you can buy for $29,900 below with new metal roof. Sided. No
neighbor country location. Storage shed. Wildlife roaming around your backyard.
One more to show these are no flukes...there are other homes heading up the $10,000 increment ladder.
This blue home is a blue light special at $34,900. Your eye sight is fine..$34,900. Nothing's wrong with home either. Not haunted, Stephen King did not make a movie here...no trash, no dings, no neglect! Friendly Patten Maine location can not be beat.
Maine homes as a rule do not have all the zeros in the price tags...thanks to one of the big reasons to move here...you may make a little less at the end of the year, but you get alot more without having three jobs to make the payments. A lady from Attleboro, Massachusetts bought a farm with home and barn recently and when she looked into insuring her Ford Taurus...not a Hummer Alpha 1 or anything exotic...a five year old Ford Taurus with no Dale Earnhardt racing package or special options, she found this. The car insurance on the Ford alone in MA cost more than the same Ford Taurus with Maine insurance, plus adding in her new home, barn insurance bill to boot. She came out way ahead of the game. She reasoned, I might not make as big a salary in Maine, but I can enjoy life, get home without traffic, and be spending less on mortgages, car insurance, gas, etc. People don't steal cars in Northern Maine? Where are you going to take them? You would never get one back to Boston on a 6.5 hour drive with state police, local police , sheriff's patrol, border patrol and neighbors who get involved if they saw a stranger slide behind your car wheel. Community spirit and the whole village looking after you! That's the unfair advantage Maine real estate brokers, agents, salesman have....lower cost real estate in a quality of life location free of many of the negative aspects of urban living. This is where you want to live, raise a family and enjoy the unspoiled outdoors and all the recreational options.
