5 Comments on Fullerton Certified Farmer's Market - A Great Place for Fresh Produce

Adam - the veggies look great - but would you please exp;ain what's meant by a "Certified" farmer's market? I've never heard that term.

Sharon,

To be perfectly honest, I am not sure.  I would think the produce has been certified by the FDA for consumers, but that is just a guess.

I LOVE a good Farmers Market!  I think I have an idea for a local post.  We have a couple of great ones in DC - There is a bread guy who makes the BEST bread there.  YUM.,,

Adam, a little googling will make it so that you don't have to guess! This has nothing to do with the FDA. It all has to do with a third party (between the farmer and the consumer) verifying the source of what you buy. "Certified" organic market means that the produce is from a farm that uses methods that fall within certain guidelines to produce food that is free from pesticides. The guidelines are stringent  but serve as a means of protecting the consumer against people who just pull up with a truck claiming their foods are organic, when in fact they might have just gone to the warehouses in L.A. and pulled a bunch of stuff off a truck and are reselling it here. Perhaps the biggest and best organic farmer's market is in Santa Monica. If you're up there, you should try to catch it. It's truly spectacular.

You might want to look into the Marin Agrigulcultural Landtrust to read up on sustainable farming and organic produce and foods. S
