Out and About Loving AnnapolisOut and About Loving Annapolis

There's Plenty of Wildlife Around Annapolis

Having lived in many homes in and around Annapolis I have seen my share of wildlife. Everything from little critters and birds on up. But I must say living in Davidsonville has brought the most wildlife to my doorstep and most of it has been a true delight.

The first year I lived here I had peacocks in my yard and on my roof. Seems there was a peacock farm behind me and they wander during mating season. The next year brought a lamb along with very large white dog both of which lived at another farm in the area. Seems the lamb thought the dog was its mother and followed it everywhere.

I have had horses who have escaped from another farm, bats that would hang from underneath my porch roof, barn swallows that made a nest in my garage. A blue heron has taken a liking to my pond and fishes there most spring days, geese who have their gosslings there and a pair of ducks as well. The deer come up almost every day and wander the yard looking for something good to eat and a couple of weeks ago a family of bunnies took up residence.

Unfortunately I have also seen the unwelcome snake or two, spiders bigger than I care to know are around and a few ground hogs too.

Nature is never too far away when you live in the country just outside Annapolis.

Want to experience the country life too? Give me a call and I will find you that perfect country home to enjoy your own nature menagerie right here in Annapolis.

and currently I have a lonely female turkey that has decided to stick around my bird feeder. I feel bad for her, she seems lost. Sounds like you have quite a bit of action when it comes to wild life at your home!

Oh my I totally forgot about the turkey we had here last year. Seems he fell in love with my neighbors girlfriend. Would scare the heck our of her every day. Never did find out where that bird ended up. :0)

Martha, I live on five acres so there's no shortage of wildlife. However, the funniest thing is to see a cow walking down the road. My neighbor has 1,000 head and every once in awhile, one escapes. I'm not sure how but it sure looks funny to come around a corner and see a cow munching on a low branch.

Martha

That is quite a menagerie you have enjoyed at your home. Owls? Coyotes?

There is a planned community in Carlsbad that abuts a historic ranch that has been preserved and there are about 40 peacocks living there. They tend to like to hang out at neighbors' homes on their patios - the neighbors are not keen about this, but I think it's kinda fun. Maybe I wouldn't if I lived there.

We get an occasional roadrunner in our yard and the quail are around regularly.

Hello Martha,  I just love the pictures, when it comes to animals, I am always one that say they were here first so they can use my space if they want.  Back from trip with grandkids, now back to work.
