Why Is Your Face Twitching Like That? All I Said Was . . .

By
Real Estate Agent with The DiGiorgio Group

You decided it's time to sell your Arvada home, and invited me over to take a 'look-see'.  Within five minutes it started. I struggled to control it, but the dreaded facial tics won.

"Why is your face twitching like that?"

I know that's what you must be wondering. And without a clue that what you just said caused the nervous tick.

"I spent $200,000 remodeling our home (in a $200-250,000 neighborhood). I need to get that back out of it."

"The house used to have three bedrooms but I tore out two bedrooms to make the most amazing master suite complete with an indoor hot tub!  Don't worry - buyers will love it. After I repair the ceiling damage."

"This house is perfect.  I know there's just dirt where the lawn should be, but absolutely nothing needs to be done to this house and I know it will bring top dollar!"

"Yes, we tore out the fireplace and left a hole in the wall.  But it's covered with cardboard and plastic.  It's been fine that way for two years.  Is that a problem?"

"The neighbors would hate me if I sold to (fill in the blank), so don't bring any of them around here."

"Look at this wall.  You can't even tell there used to be a huge crack there, can you?"

This list could go on and on!

When people say real estate agents make too much money, they must not realize the very real danger we all risk of developing facial tics and other stress-related disorders!

If you know a real estate agent - especially if it's someone you might hire to sell your house someday - please be kind and consult them before you make major decisions about extensive remodeling (or not), major repairs (or not), and what sort of discrimination is OK (None!).

You're not wasting their time, you may be saving them from developing an early case of facial tics.

"The cause of tics is unknown, but stress appears to make tics more severe.

Symptoms

  • Repeated, uncontrolled spasm-like muscle movements, such as:
    • Eye blinking
    • Grimacing
    • Mouth twitching
    • Nose wrinkling
    • Squinting
  • Repeated throat clearing or grunting"      New York Times Health Guide

NOTE:  If you, dear reader, think I'm talking about YOU in this post, please keep in mind it's just meant to be a light-hearted way of saying I would be more than happy to sit down and chat with about you about how major decisions might impact the value of your home should you decide to sell it in the future.

Thanks for the laugh. I've been in homes that I swear have played havoc on my nervous system.

Very good Joetta!  Suggested!  I actually did develop a pop in my jaw several weeks ago after working with the most mean-spirited buyer I have ever had the pleasure.  This is like the Pink Panther and Inspector Clouseau giving Cheif Inspector Dreyfus that eye twitch ;-)

Adrian - and it's the effort to not let it show that brings on the tics!

Carla - oh no - jaw popping is worse in that it adds the element of pain.  I hope you are all recovered!

Debbie - Thanks for the link, I loved your post on the Egyptian style theater.
