Historic Ellicott City, Maryland

We had a gorgeous day yesterday, (temps were in the 70s).  I was out and about and just happened to have my camera with me. . .took some shots of Ellicott City's historic district.  This is a close-up of the bell tower in the Firehouse Museum.  For anyone who lives in the area or is visiting, Main Street in Ellicott City is quaint beyond belief and has lots of shops & gallerys -- great for a weekend stroll.

Here's a shot taken from the same spot, but of the entire street.  The interesting thing about Ellicott City is how hilly it is.  And for all of the history buffs: remember the story of the train that raced a horse way back in the 19th Century?  That took place in Ellicott City!

I know.  Can you believe this weather?  It's like spring.  I'll take it!

As usual your photos are great.  Ellicott City has a great historic district.  My wife and I actually picked out our wedding bands there from a place called Hi Ho Silver! - a little artsy craftsy place that does custom jewelry along with the standard stuff.

There a nice German micro brew in the area, too, that we ate at but I forget the name.  It's been awhile.

Ken -- well, the weather has turned cold again in a matter of days! Thanks for the compliment on my photos :-)

Is the brewery you're thinking of, Ellicott Mills Brewery?  As far as Hi Ho Silver, I'm not sure if it's still around or not, but I remember the store. . .there's been a lot of turn over in the past few years.  There was a fire a few years ago that took out a couple of the historic buildings which have now been rebuilt.  A friend of mine's parents lost their art gallery in that fire.

Some of the newer shops are way cool.  You and your wife should come back for another visit sometime!
