Last night I received a heartfelt warming letter from my "new Cousin" Alexander Küehr. His mother is Klara's youngest sister.  He even speaks and writes English very well.

Alex is 43 years old and is a very successful photographer. Looking at Alex's website it seems he enjoys photographing Rock Bands. Had I found Klara a few months ago I may have had a visit from Alex as he was in Bedford, NH about 30 miles away touring with a Rock Band.

Looks like Alex toured with a band called EDGUY

Alex lives in Leinfelden-Echterdingen, very close to the City of Stuttgart close to where Monika was born.

I am so excited I can't stand it. I had to laugh as Alex said in his letter the following:

"I must say, when I watch your pictures I really can see that you are one of us here...! Nothings to deny...! ;)
This cracked me up. Pretty funny.

He did mention that Klara thought she would never hear from me in her lifetime and she is very very happy that I did find her, "she is more than speechless and unable to say anything."

He also said Klara has a "BIG THANK YOU" to Monika for her lovely letter "A letter to my husband's birth mother".

It was beyond our wildest dream that we would hear back this quickly. I am very thankful to Alex for visiting his Aunt yesterday. I am also extremely ecstatic that he has email and speaks English.

I look forward to hearing from Alex in the near future. I also told him to ask Klara to write even if it's in German as we can get it translated very easily.

Life is Good!!!

It all started with Monika's dream and her letter to my birth mother.

Then I wrote finding my birth mother

Then how I found my birth mother

Hi Jay - Imagine he was THAT CLOSE to you!!  WOW!!

His comment about no denying you're one of them is funny!  Guess you must look like a lot of your new-found relatives.  That will be interesting for you when you start getting some pictures from them.  And how great that he speaks and writes in English - that will be so helpful to you when corresponding.

How awesome for you to have a letter from Germany!!

Mr. McGillicuddy I don't think I'll ever forget your story.  I read it to my husband, starting with Monika's story - and cried the whole way through. It's a wonderful story - maybe it will be a movie one day!

Justin, glad to see you dropped by. I can hardly wait to hear your good news later too. I can't wait to talk to you later. (Justin is my son who lives near Atlanta, GA.)

Ines, Life is good and we just came together on an offer we wrote the other day. Yee HA

Jay, So sorry I haven't commented until now. we are still having that IP address problem since moving to Amie's. I'm so glad to hear about your contact with cousin Alex. Is Alex a family name? Perhaps the grandfather or favorite uncle since your brother is Alex also. Maybe he will come to the states during the summer and can go to BarHarbor with you! Finding out about your family must be like opening up a Christmas present every day! You never know what you'll discover.

Today we spoke with Klara as she received the photos we sent on Wednesday. She did say that I looked like her brother when her brother was younger.

My niece was there on vacation visiting with Klara when we called, Klara didn't know she could speak a little English. My niece Andrea (i think that's her name) is my Brother Alex's daughter and she is 39 and has a 20 year old.

Klara has been pacing and having sleepless nights since my photos arrived. I know how she feels.

My niece has email and will be home tomorrow night and she will email us. This is so cool as it all is unfolding very nicely.

*** UPDATE ***

We had another great day today as I was able to speak to my cousin Alex Kuehr who can speak English. I was able to get in touch with him and speak to him for a while and then his battery on his phone was dying and we had to end the call when it finally died.

Then we spoke to Klara again yesterday afternoon along with my brother Alex's daughter Daniela, who is 39. She emailed us a photo of her at 37 yrs old. Very beautiful. Then we have a photo of her dad Alex at age 30. He is 58 now, and a picture of Klara when she was 50 now almost 82.

We spoke with Alex for about an hour and that was great as we are getting to understand him more. I even understand a lot more words than I did a week ago. Monika has bought me CD's and a book on how to speak German in 10 minutes a day. LOL

To finish the day off, we just got off the phone with my sister Anita. She speaks in a little different German dialect than Monika and she speaks a little faster than Klara and Alexander do so it was a little tricky trying to translate.

She is very happy and glad to hear from us.

We are looking forward to trying to get to Germany this summer.

Linda, I would be so embarrassed about that.

So you are saying that if you go th Germany that Mike and I could stay at Bar Harbor to hold your site for next year? Unless of course you plan to do both......I think the movie is a great idea. It could pay royalties you know and no need for you to be embarrassed...all the names have been changed to protect the innocent.

I received a letter from my brother and pictures of my German family today. This has been a great day. Even pictures of my grandparents and Aunts and Uncles. I may put them up on my website this weekend. Most of them are of my brother and two of Klara and one of Anita when she was 14.

Jay this is Stacy and Tom. This stuff is fantastic. You should consider a book that is simply an introduction that you and Monkia write with the emails. I think I mentioned I've spent many, many happy months in Germany. My ex was German and I visited there often. I too am German, but a German Jew and that's a pretty complicated thing to be for the obvious reasons. It is a gorgeous country. And I have a feeling when you go, you'll feel instantly at home as I did. As they say in D-land, Viel Gluck!
