Well, the mortgage market being what it is in Phoenix, I have found that I am more valuable to the world putting my SEO stuff to work.
My thing has always been mortgages and real estate SEO. But with the real estate market being what it is in Arizona, I have put originating Arizona VA loans on the back burner. I now do SEO full time-- more than full time-- for a couple of professional firms.
[EDIT: Sunday, June 10, 2012: If you search for this post in Google now, you can see it in action.]

So I'm going to be back here in the rain posting once per week, maybe twice per week (ambitious), on SEO related matters. Again, this is something I do about 60 hours per week. Just SEO. Nothing but SEO. If there is a better full time SEO person on AR, giving free advice, you should listen to them.

Okay, So How Do I Get My Face In The Google Search Results?
Pretty easy actually. Just follow these six easy steps and be done in 30 minutes, max:
1. Create a Google+ account. Please don't be a baby about this. Just do it. Yes, you are already on Facebook and you don't like Google+ and whine, whine, whine.
But do you want to master the Facebook search engine, or do you want to master Google?
What social network would Google prefer you use? The one that increases their stock price, or FB, which decreases Google's stock price?
It's common sense people. Social marketing is the future, and if Google wants you to sign up, I suggest you take their advice. If not, stop here- you won't like the rest.
2. After you sign up, edit your profile. Add your photo, some information about you, etc.
3. Under the "about you" section, you will see an area called "Contributor To". This is the area that you add the blogs or websites that you contribute to. In the case of most people here, you should have at least two: Your Active Rain Blog and Your Personal Blog. Be sure to add your AR blog here!
4. If your other blog is a Wordpress blog, or your website is simply built in Wordpress, install the following plugin: Better Author Bio. The easiest way to do this is to go to "add plugins" from your dashboard, search for the name, and click install. That's pretty much it. After it is installed on your website, go to "settings" and add your Google+ information.
5. Follow the simple plugin set up instructions, and now your face will start appearing in the Google results for your home page blog.
Yep! At least one other ActiveRainer is doing it, his name is Craig Daniels. If you would like to see how awesome his ActiveRain blog looks in the search engines, check this out.

And it's just as easy! Once you set up Google+, you're AR posts will start showing up.

I jumped into Google+ this week. I have noticed that now my plus ones are posted there. I will watch to see how the SEO changes. Thanks Michael. I just subcribed to your blog.
I'll do something crazy and work from the bottom:
@Joy: Honestly, I am not doing this for business reasons. I am like an attorney that has three major clients...and that's what I have. Anything I do here is out of the goodness of my heart! Sounds like BS? Maybe. But really, I used to want to write about SEO here in the rain, but I stopped myself because my competition would use it.
@Grant: Thank you sir. If you do a search right now for get your pretty face in Google results, you SHOULD find me in the fifth result. But if you are logged into Google, or you have search preferences saved...who knows.
@Debbie: Just send me a personal email and I will figure it out for you. Send me the link to your google+ page, your WP blog, and a sample post where you have it installed.
@Everyone: This post itself is now showing up in Google with my face. Search for "get your pretty face in google results" or something like that and you should see it.
If you want your ActiveRain posts to show in Google with your face, read THIS POST and take a look at the screenshot below. (It is a picture of THIS post, in Google, with the face I added the day I wrote this post.)
Again, read this, if you want this:
Thx Michael. You're the best! I will send it later as I ned to run to an appt now.
I'm really excited about this post. I found it through Tammy Emenith re-post. Thanks Tammy!!! I'm excited to get started.
What a great post. I come from a recent IT background and the whole social networking thing still makes my head hurt. This was wonderful and inspirational - maybe I could get to the top in the search engines....I think I can.....I think I can....

And I will make another one for WP users...
Thanks Michael, Really great instructions. I will be watching for the WP version.
Great info, will give it a try. I will also read all of your blogs to see what else I can pick up. Thank you Michael.
Love your sense of humor with this...will do it exactly as you describe...thx
Michael, I thought I had seen this earlier - may be, it was a re-bolog.
Nice to see our face on Google - and it's so easy....thanks for showing the trick.
Thank you Thank you Thank you!! I just did all of this... now the big question. How long does it actually take to show up that way in Google when you do a search?
Done! Thanks to Melissa Marro up there I was led back to your blog - I love people who are much smarter than me but I'm a quick study - thank YOU!
Thanks for the info-so much more to do and learn.
Excellent! I am ready...But you still got to see Tammy Emineth's post about this
If I could ask a quick question, please. Where in "settings" do I add my Google+ information? Under which link? I have a WordPress site, and I've pulled up every single tab under settings but nothing seems to correlate.
Michael, I've had a G+ accounbt for a while but had the wrong stuff linked to it! Thanx for the great info!
@Elizabeth: Under your user profile.
I don't know if I've done something wrong, or I'm just impatient. I did all of this on September 28th and it still isn't showing up in searches... *sigh* I have to check every day because I'm so excited!
Yay!!! Apparently it took about ten days, but it is there now!! woo hoo!
Thanks for tip and I will look forward to your posts! Have a great week, Eric
