Cool little gizmo - camera level

I realize that a lot of tripods have levels in them, and I was a bit skeptical about this little gadget.  But two different photographers in the camera store swore by the gadget, so I paid my $15 and bought one.  And, I now see the appeal.  It's actually a very cool little tool and does a great job.

Camera Level

I'm really not a gadget guy.  I only get stuff that helps me get the job done.  But I've been on two different photo shoots in the past week, and this tool REALLY REALLY helps you quickly get the camera leveled out.  With a three axis tripod head, it's a snap!  The level just slides onto the hotshoe of the camera.  PLUS, you can slide upright as well, (the little plate on the left of the level in the photo) so if you have your camera tipped over.

Works like a champ.  Definitely worth the $15.

John, I've been wanting one of those.  Where can I buy one?

I bought it at Nelson's Camera Supply in San Diego.  I think they had their own packaging on it.  They were really low on them from the holidays.  I don't know if that's a big chain or not.

B&H Photo ships but can be pricey. They also have a bubble-level with an adhesive back so you can keep your hot shoe free for a flash.

I thought about putting a glue dot on it and sticking it on my flash....but here's why I did not.  I like to tip my camera into portrait position, and the fact that this hotshoe level has two hotshoe pads so that you can change it's orientation allows me to slide it off and slide it back on with the other shoe pad.  If it was glued down then I couldn't do that.  The adhesive approach would work great for someone with a point and shoot that has no hotshoe.

Cool gadget and critical when you are using a wide angle lens to prevent distortion!  Are these available at places like Ritz cameras?

Check Nelson's camera.  I think someone else said they are available at B&H.

I just saw this same cool level on my  neighbor's camera this weekend!  I tried it on my camera and on the tripod and it's a great deal for $15 and also very CUTE!  Love it!!
