SOME THINGS TO DO AROUND NEW FAIRFIELD and CANDLEWOOD LAKE, CT
As you’re enjoying your week-end or planning recreational activities around our beautiful Candlewood Lake area and New Fairfield, consider some of the following - either fun, educational or useful endeavors:
- Spring Water Testing - Saturday, June 9th 2012 8AM - Noon at Stop & Shop in New Fairfield
Pick up your water test kit and have it tested by Aqua Environmental Labs for $40.00. Please follow kit instructions carefully to avoid contamination, which might show faulty results. The test checks for Coliform Bacteria, PH levels in water, minerals and nitrates.
- New Fairfield Strawberry Event - Sunday, June 10th Outdoors at Senior Center 1PM - 4PM
Preserve New Fairfield is sponsoring its annual Strawberry Event. Enjoy a variety of strawberry delights such as the traditional shortcake, home-made jams, cheese-cake stuffed berries, chocolate-covered berries and more! There will be raffles and prizes, multiple vendors with a variety of interesting food and gift items. A special musical treat will be provided by the Russ Preston Revue - dancing is encouraged! The Preserve New Fairfield organization is currently focusing its efforts on creating the first ever local museum in New Fairfield dedicated to featuring the history of Candlewood Lake.
- Rhubarb Festival - just slightly north of New Fairfield, in Sherman, the White Silo Farm & Winery is hosting their 5th Annual Rhubarb Festival June 9th and June 10th 12 Noon - 5PM. Sample dishes with locally-grown rhubarb, such as Vanilla Panna Cotta with Rhubarb, Ginger Compote, Rhubarb Ice Cream Sundae and Roasted Pork Loin with White Silo’s special Rhubarb mustard. There will also be live music, museum, winery and field tours. The views from the area are spectacular!
- Music and Memories of a Life in the Yiddish Theater - The Thomashefskys Movie will be presented Saturday, June 9th at 8PM at the Jewish Community Center in Sherman (9 Rte 39 South, Sherman). This documentary is offered as part of the JCC’s Jewish Heritage Programs. Lower East Side Noshs will be served.
- Demonstration of Painting in Acrylic - this time slightly east of New Fairifeld, the Society of Creative Arts of Newtown will sponsor local artist James Grabowski, demonstrating techniques of painting in acrylic. The event will take place on Wednesday, June 13th at 7:30PM at the Newtown Meeting House (Main St at Flagpole). Admission is free.
As you’re driving around, don’t miss the various garage and tag sales currently abundant in the area of New Fairfield and Candlewood Lake - you just might find that special treasure! You might also find property for sale signs that might intrigue you.
