                                                                    world

This morning I have been reminded of the importance of networking in our business.  I recently closed a deal that came from an agent who is with the Sereno Group in California.  Mary Beth trusted my abilities and the end result was happy clients and a closed deal ( yes in this down market something sold ).

A few days later while I was sitting an open house I met two folks from Toronto.  They were also considering the Miami area.  I remembered that I had a contact in Miami.  Unfortunately I had lost his contact information when my hard drive crashed, but I had another source... I could go to California .... What?

Well what I actually mean is my realtor friend in California had called me way back looking for a Miami agent for one of her customers, I gave her a name and now I went back to her to get the contact information again.

So here we are Naples, Miami, Los Gatos, all working together.  Networking is so important in this business!!!  You may wonder why it is important to hold onto someone's card when you meet them and they are  from an area a million miles away...well the couple from Toronto, one of them was also a realtor, so you can see how one contact can build on the other. It is all about making those connections and keeping in touch.  When you think Network think referral, referral, referral. Wouldn't it be nice to be an agent that works only with referred customers?

I agree with you.  Networking is very important.   If I meet someone, I send them an email and then its on my microsoft outlook- in case I lose the card.

And not just in real estate.

When I was contacting a Realtor just yesterday for referrals, I learned he had been out from work for almost a month with back pain. A few years ago I over did it gardening and was on my back for an entire day to relieve the pain. In my opinion, after 2 kids, it is worse than labor!  But my solution was simple.

Hector had a much bigger problem since he had previously had surgery. I referred him to a massage therapist that specializes in Reiko massage. I saw up close and personal this therapist transform a friend who had back surgery and was scheduling another to FULL health. It was amazing and if I wasn't there to witness it I wouldn't believe it. Hopefully Tim can help Hector.

So, network, network, network. With everything. I have friends that are amazing caterers, so I use them periodically for networking/social events. They always get at least one new customer.

Thanks for posting Shannon!

Hi Judy,

Thanks for the comment.  It is so true and it is really something I think is a bit overlooked in our business.   After my hard drive crashed I bought one of those books you keep business cards in and I make a personal note on where I met the person, date etc so that if I ever cannot get their info from my computer I have it.  Hope you are enjoying the warmer temps up there.

Hi Tara,

An excellent point.  I unfortunately can relate to the back pain as well and what an amazing story... how terrific to be a part of your friends healing process as well.  You reminded me that the other night when I was at Wild Oats a lady saw me looking at some avocados and suggested the bigger Florida ones. I mentioned I had brought a bunch home while doing an open house just recently ( there was a tree there loaded with them that owners said I could have - I love Florida! )Anyway as our conversation progressed it turned out she was a designer and home stager!  So there you have it another connection for me :-) Thanks for your comment Tara and have a great day!
