FAQ - Why should I use a local Lender?
The following was written by my good friend and co-worker, Marnie Matarese with J Wood Realty. This is great advice, and I could not have said it better.
WHY SHOULD I USE A LOCAL LENDER?
It happened again today. Although I had advised and cajoled and then practically begged the buyers to dump their internet lender, why should they pay any attention to me? Why would my advice be better than the wife’s hairdresser’s brother, the waiter, who is so much more experienced than I am in the ways of real estate. After all, he comes in contact with customers all day long who fill his ears with their real estate knowledge as he is serving them their food.
So, they choose to stick with the lender who I will not name but whose name implies moving at a quick rate of speed. I will not go into the details because they are all too familiar to any realtor who has been tortured with the horror of trying to close a deal with them. But you, the prospective buyer, you need to find a local lender. You need to be able to sit across from a live human being, someone with a desk that you can come back and beat your fists on, someone with a face to go with a name.
Why? Because when things begin to go crazy with your loan, you need to have someone who can be held accountable. Today was not the day to find out that Mr. XYZ is no longer with your internet lender and apparently shoved all of his active files into a bottom drawer last week, of a desk in a state far, far away from you. What now? We are going to have to start over and I certainly hope that this experience will put me a bit ahead of the waiter who should stick to his job and let me do mine.
