Say that 10 times fast!

I know that a clear niche is very beneficial when marketing yourself. There are condo experts, first-time-buyer specialists, historic property afficionados and many more creative ones that I'm just not able to think of right now.

So, I've been trying to determine my niche. I've been thinking about my interests and passions, and have decided that it's harder than you think to translate your interests into real estate. But, what I have come up with is that I am hopelessly silly, kooky, in love with animals. If I can find sellers and buyers who are either also crazy about their pets, or at least like the idea of working someone who is an animal fan -- we'll both be happier.

I've done a little brain storming about how this will look in practice. Appealing to people with pets might mean that I advertise that my vehicle can accomodate visitors with pets, knowing which hotels are pet friendly, having discounts at local puppy spas, that a portion of my commission goes to local animal causes, etc.

But what I don't know is -- is this a niche that can be effectively marketed to?

Has anyone done anything similar or know of anyone who has? Any great ideas you can share about how to maximize connection to the pet-loving real estate market?

WARNING: gratuitous flaunting of adorable puppies follows. . .

Have you ever googled "pet-friendly" Realtor?  Plenty of folks are advertising themselves that way, and I'm planning on making my pet friendliness more apparent.  Here in Dayton Ohio, the local Coldwell-Banker branches use a Golden Lab as a mascot on ttheir print ads and on their signs. It's very eye-catching and memorable.  If I find a link, I'll shot it to you.  I say Go For It!

Hi Theresa!

Thanks for your encouragement! I haven't yet googled it, and I can't believe I haven't because I'm usually a googling fanatic! Thanks for the suggestion. If you do end up making your pet friendliness more apparent, I'd love to hear what you do and how it works out for you! Thanks again!

Just found this site, perhaps you found it too!  www.petfriendlyrealty.com  I'm giving it a go. Why not?  Pet owners are loyal people.

Edit 1/12/07 this isn't the link. I'll check it out and get back.

Theresa, this looks great. And it looks like no one in my area is doing it yet. Thanks for finding it for me. I do think I'll sign up -- a small investment for a good purpose, don't you think?! Hope to hear more about your successes in the near future!
