The Pride of the Fox Riverfest kicked off today in St. Charles, IL. This is one of the best events of the year in the Fox Valley with so much to do: a carnival, 3 full days of live music, and the popular dragon boat races on Saturday and Sunday. There's also an art show and craft fair over in Pottawatomie Park.

Today the Dog Jumps featured the first round of competition. It's fun to watch: the handler tosses a toy out over the water and the dogs leap as far as twenty feet to catch it in the air. I heard that the dogs are supposed to land "butt" down, rather than "nose down" to get a clean point of landing for the measurement. Some of the dogs were pretty funny, especially the little dogs.

Come out to downtown St. Charles this weekend. The weather is supposed to be gorgeous. Here's the complete program.

I'm sure the dogs would be lots of fun to watch; I've never seen any sort of dog show. The Riverfest sounds like fun.
