The Brevard Music Center in Brevard, NC is entering its 76th year and over that time it has earned an international reputation for outstanding performances of classical music, including performances by its faculty, its students, as well as numerous guest musicians and conductors over the years.  This year’s summer concert series will begin June 22, and will feature 80 different performances in 7 weeks, including opera, chamber music, orchestral pieces, and more. Click here to see Brevard Music Center's Full Schedule of Performances The history of the Brevard Music Centerbegan in 1936 at Davidson College, where James Christian Pfohl decided to start a summer music camp for boys.  He had already experienced a similar music camp in Michigan, where he had gone to the Interlochen Music Camp.  In 1944 Pfohl founded the Transylvania Music Camp, which became the Brevard Music Center in 1955.  In its long history, the Brevard Music Center has had a number of outstanding music and artistic directors, including Keith Lockhart, conductor of the Boston Pops and himself an alumnus of the Brevard Music Center. Due to the center’s many generous donors, the Brevard Music Center has been able to offer many of its performances free as a gift to the Brevard community.
