Boones Creek Day and the Love Lavender Festival in Jonesborough tempted me today and I gave in – pleasant afternoon.    Hundreds of people turned out on a beautiful day to see all the crafts at Boones Creek Day, sponsored by the Boones Creek Historical Trust and other local organizations.   It was held on the grounds of Jennifer Reese's  Boones Creek Pottery Gallery, located appropriatelly in a rambling historic property on Boones Creek Road.

Of all the crafts people at Boones Creek Day, the one that really caught my attention was Deanna Carey, who displays “naturally beautiful handcrafted items”.    I commented on the fragrant lavender braided sachets, “I got some at a home on the Quilt Trail a couple of years ago.”

The first serendipity of the day was that my new friend  is the daughter of George and Margaret Holley, at whose Knob Creek Museum I had got the lavender wands.   I’d had a great visit with them, and we’d enjoyed the fact that they’d watched my house being built on its hill across the valley from them years ago, and I had sent them pictures of their historic property from my own yard.   They were sitting in that very tent – greeting friends and celebrating their 66th anniversary today, with a cake decorated with the quilt design on one of their barns – about which I’d blogged at that time.

We had a lovely time remembering that meeting, the pictures and what we shared.   I was pleasantly surprised that Mrs. Holley remembered my name and still had my card from two years ago.   But I hope they’ll never sell – they belong to that land, that museum house, and the quilt barns.

The second serendipity today was at the same place.   I saw a couple of doctor friends standing together with their children.   I spoke to them and one hugged me because I’d just sold his house and I told him I'd also sold a house to the parents of friends of his, the Higginbothams.   The other one happens to have his house listed with another company so I can’t explain to them that although I’ve shown their house a couple of times, I can’t do much to help them because I’m not advertising anything similar to theirs in price.

Third serendipity – a record for a single day - I went from the Boones Creek Day event to the Love Lavender Festival in Jonesborough, sponsored by my friend, Allison Gilliam, whose family has been involved in lavender growing and products for years and who owns the Scott County Lavender Store in Jonesborough.  While I was enjoying that event, I ran into Thurman and Marie Dye, old friends.   I told them about having just seen George and Margaret Holley because I remembered that when I told them the story of the Holley farm, museum and quilt barns a couple of years ago, I was very surprised to have Marie tell me that Thurman grew up across the road from them.   It’s a delightfully small world.

Later that day, telling this story to another client, I discovered that she was a close friend of the Holleys and was having dinner with them next week, and when I got to the "Higginbotham" part, she said, "Would that be Mike Higginbotham's parents?"   She knew that family too.

I didn’t sell any houses or list any, but I had a delightful day.

Mary,

Three in one day, WOW!  I think we all have these everyday but are just less aware, or less active in pursuing the idea at the time it occurs.  I'm trying to regularly breed serendipitous awareness into my reticular activating system so I can target these opportunities more often, because they always make for interesting scenarios and comfortable world.

Another cool story, Mary!
