How many of you are sick of hearing about the depressed real estate market?  The real estate market  is to blame for everything  from the slowing retail market to the recession. If we didn't hear about the housing market with every news cast the public could move on. So many people believe every word they hear on the evening news. They make people afraid to move forward with their life. The fear is the housing prices may lower further so waiting is in their best interest. Real Estate is local! In our area we aren't suffering as much as some other markets, but the perception is there. I guess all we can do is try to be standing when this turns around. I think we will all enjoy good times again soon.

I agree. The market in Dallas is good also. It is a local issue but the fear is national. I believe good times are coming.

I love how the news tells you how bad things are, then at the end of the story they put in "75% of this is happening in Cali and FL".  They love to scared the heck out of everyone.   That is what sells.  Sad.

Our market isn't as bad as the national media makes it out to be.  I wish that certain things could just be reported on locally instead of scaring the entire country with something that only applies to a small handful of markets.

Our market in College Station is doing just fine.  The news doesn't tell good news, only the bad.

Yeah, same here.  People always want our product being a resort area regardless of the external forces such as gas, war, economy, interest rates, etc.  So property is selling, just in thin slices of pie for us personally.  But lots of buyers come looking to get "steals" right now because they incorrectly assume every seller is desperate (of course, some are desperate) when most, however, are not.  And the forelosures we do have are being sold at or just below FMV-- not at courthouse-steps prices like in the old days.  We need to stay positive!!!

Bad News Sells Newspapers.. same thing with any TV news story.. lead with the tragedy story...   When is the last time you turned your local TV news on and heard the reporter start out with "Everything is great! The economy is growing, unemployment is down, stocks are up and the sun is shining!"  Next time someone asks you how the real estate market is.. or how your day is going... or whatever... answer them by saying enthusiastically "Unbelievable!"  I guarantee that will set the tone for the rest of your conversation!
