I have long held that allowing tenants to smoke is a financial decision for landlords because of the costs involved with repairing units.
30+ years ago, I had to actually REsheetrock an apartment where the Section8 resident had LIVED and SMOKED for 10 years. The nicotine on the walls was so bad, it was more cost effective to REsheetrock the rooms than to attempt to scrap to remove the buildup
The Towbes Group has a large portfolio of rental apartments in SoCal and effective THIS MONTH, new residents may not smoke in the apartments or the common areas. Current residents have until the end of the year to comply with this NO SMOKING restriction.
