Voxer - Walkie Talkie
Voxer turns your smartphone (iPhone or Android) into a very smart walkie talkie. What I like about it is its ease of use. Once you’re in my Voxer contact list all I have to do is tap your name then push the “hold and talk” bar at the bottom of the screen and start talking. The message streams live and when I’m done just take my finger off the bar.
You can respond immediately or later because the messaging is recorded. I love this because I’m usually out and about and texting is okay but often I’m in the middle of something and all thumbs. A quick voice message is easier and faster. I can also take a photograph from within the app or attach one that’s already on my phone and send it along. Voxer also has a text mode.
I can see a lot of uses for an app like this. Keep your clients up to date with a quick message that the home inspection is done, a new offer just came in so let’s plan to get together and review it, or you just got word from escrow that the buyers have finished signing.
The conversation thread is recorded and you can listen to the exchange at any time. Each segment is date and time stamped. You can create groups which would be ideal for teams. The application is free and there’s no advertising. You can download it from Voxer.com, iTunes Store, or several other sites. Just Google, Voxer.
Early reviews were a little mixed so I hesitated to download it at first until I noticed several of my friends were on it and they all love it. I’m using the app on my iPhone 4s and I’ve had no issues with it at all. In fact, I see it as one of my top 10 tools. Another plus is the audio messages are treated like email so depending on your data plan, Voxer conversations are not eating away at your call minutes.
Voxer asks you if you want to invite all your Facebook friends. I did not do this. It's a great tool, as I've said, and for the time being I just want to walkie talkie with a few clients, coworkers, and friends.
