"Well, she was just 17,
You know what I mean,
And the way she looked was way beyond compare.
So how could I dance with another (ooh)
And I saw her standin' there..."
-The Beatles 1963 (written by Lennon/McCartney)
Come on... you know, you KNOW the rest of the song... don't leave me hangin'
I LOVED that song! And just about everything else Beatles, just like everybody else in the ‘60's... My young mother and friends knew all the lyrics to their debut song, "I Want to Hold Your Hand" and "I Saw Her Standing There" (B-Side) in 1963! Belting them out in the hills of Southern New Hampshire. I learned all the lyrics too and sang and danced just as much as Ma did. The only difference was: I was four years old!
Oops...now EVERYONE KNOWS....my real age... What have I done?!...That DEFINITELY was not the point of this post.
Now you know just how much and how early song has influenced my heart, my style, my life. It has especially infused me with elements of Rock n'Roll, R&B (old-school thank you very much), Soul and especially Jazz...
pure osmosis... ME.
Original footage -but does contain lyrics on screen- however I like the sound clarity on the footage:
