Yes, it's my 2 year anniversary here on Active Rain. I started July 4th weekend (July 3rd to be exact)...a time when things slowed down and I finally had some time to check what Active Rain was all about. (It had been on my "to do" list for 5 months). Thank goodness I checked this place out because it has propelled my business to new heights and connected me with so many wonderfully talented people.
BAR - BEFORE ACTIVE RAIN:
- I didn't even know what SEO meant, let alone how to do it
- My website was getting less than 200 hits per month (and prob. half of those were me)
- I had never written a blog post about my business.
- My nickname of The Flooring Girl didn't exist
Some highlights:
The post with the most hits and most reblogs: What types of hardwood are best for pets? It was reblogged 39 times and has over 7,000 clicks. (this doesn't include hits from reblogs nor a 2nd version I created on my own website). By the way, on my wordpress site, my #1 post is Red Oak vs. White Oak What's the difference? already has over 4,000 hits in 6 months and each month, it keeps growing.
My post with the most comments: Getting more backlinks...easily...by commenting on blogs A bit controversial, so be sure to read the comments.
Now, it's interesting looking back at my 1 year anniversary post. At that point in time, I was honored and thrilled that I had 24 featured posts...and yes, I remember it seemed like forever before I got my first featured post. Well now, 1 year later, I now have 81 featured posts...which means I got more than twice as many featured posts in year 2 so yes, things get a bit easier over time.
At the end of Year 1, I had 261 Called Shots...and now I have slightly over 600, so yes, you can have an influence here.
I don't know how many subscribers I had, but the # was probably low as I was too embarrassed to publish it. Now, I have 301 subscribers. Not bad, but yes, there is lots of room for improvement.
AAR - AFTER ACTIVE RAIN
- I have a new positioning - The Flooring Girl (and a logo...and a lot more to come)...and, it's WORKING - online and offline!
- My new wordpress site TheFlooringGirl.com is getting over 5,500 unique hits every month. (My original site is getting over 1,800/month, my AR site is getting at least 5,000 hits and now I just launched 2 new key word rich sites.
- The combo of my blogs/website leads is now #2 business source generating 3-4 appointments each week. (Actually it's tied...top 3 are Internet, Angieslist.com and repeat customers).
- I have made so many great friends here...locally and not so local. Some of the local ones have also directly given me business and/or introduced me to other agents who in turn have given my business....and all have been so much nice and so much fun and have so much to share. I'm not going to mention names because I know I will miss some people.
- Oh, and I've blogged so much here, that now my membership is free...and yes, I did this the old fashioned way...I've earned it (Imagine John Houseman in the background)
So for those of you who are just joining and wondering whether this works, the answer is YES...and it doesn't matter if you are a real estate agent or not. It works either way. Thank you Active Rain for making this possible and thank you Active Rain community for all your support and friendship.

98 Comments on 2 years in the Rain...750,000 points and I'm DRENCHED
Debbie, you have consistently provided us with great information. Thank you and congratulations!
Hi Debbie, You are a Super Star Blogger, and I have no doubts that you will reach that Million Point club in record time. I have learned so much from reading your posts, and you have shared lots of information about flooring, and blogging for our AR community. Keep up the Great Work! Congratulations on your Two Year Anniversary.
yes you did earn it. Love your post and story of what AR has done for you and I always love your information.
Hey all - Thank you so much for all your kind words and support. This last week or so has been rather tough for me...lots going on with the business/pulled in many directions and exhausted from fighting 2 colds. Having today off helped, but still very tired and hoping to catch up on more sleep this weekend.
Wow, that's amazing Debbie, clearly you get back what you put into things, and you have contributed a lot!!
I wish you great success in year 3 and beyond!
Bob
Take some time to rest up so you can do the work you love. Congratulations on your accomplishments.
Bob - Thank you so much. Yes, year 3 in the Rain should be even better...as is Year 5 in biz.
Leslie - Yes, that's what I've been doing. Doing better today and looking forward to more rest this weekend.
Debbie - It took vision for you to figure out how to take a real estate social network and harness its power for your business. One thing that stuck me about you from the beginning was how honest, helpful, and unassuming you were. You came to AR with such a generous spirit. It really stood out and made people want to get to know you. I was so glad when I met you that you are the same way in real life. Congratulations on this milestone! I know it was hard work, but it has certainly paid off.
Debbie: What an inspiring post... for Newbies, and Oldbies as well. And wow... 750,000 points in two years is just incredible. I have about 840,000... and it has taken me FIVE years (as of August 21st). I am so proud of you, and so pleased for you.
I think that one of the reasons you get so many "hits" is that so many of your posts are "timeless." Posts you wrote two years ago can be just as valuable to the consumer as the ones you wrote this week.
And one more thing... you do great Headlines for your posts. I congratulate you on your success... Flooring Girl. :)
Karen Anne - Thank you so much. You are so sweet and so supportive. You are so right about having timeless posts. Most of mine are, but I was just realizing last night that I have few trend posts from a contest and I need to get rid of dates so hopefully that will help.
Debbie wow that is some amazing accomplishment, Congrats to many more years and points:)))
Debbie - Getting to know you has been a great joy! AR has introduced me to SO many wonderful people that I call friends and I dont know what I would do without it! Here is to many many more years!!
Debbie - congratulations. It is really fascinating that members, who are not real estate agents, can manage to do so well. Home Inspectors, Stagers, and you.
And you pace is simply incredible. As Karen Anne said, it took us way longer.
Good luck
Lets get this post to 100 comments! Seems like a nice round number!
Endre - Thx so much.
Melissa - Thank you, and it's been great getting to know you, too.
Jon - Thx a ton. Yes, it works for all of us. Oh, and yes, I think it's easier to progress faster now with all the contests and high pt amts for those.
Roger - Oh LOL, I just saw this. I don't think we'll get there since the post is from about a week ago. I suppose we would have been there if I had responded back along the way as I usually do, but I was so under the weather that I couldn't keep up.
We can do this Debbie, me and you! LOL. Here's 96..............Tag, you're it!
And here is number 97, you will make it to 100, probably by the end of the day today,
Have a great week, Bob
Debbie:
You are a marvel. You write great posts. You are one of the most helpful people on ActiveRain and you are just so sweet. How do you do it. It is amazing that you have 750,000 points in 2 years. I am definitely a slacker. Keep up the good work. You are an inspiration to me and I am sure to other Rainers.

Bob - Thank you!
Evelyn - Thank you so much! You are so super sweet. Oh, and you're not a slacker at all. You are are awesome. So glad we got to speak on the phone.
