Hello Kristin,
A very impressive battleship, will you be taing a tour ? They are a nice adddition to the local economy. So much history and if it could only tell a few stories. One of these days I intend to tour the Battleship New Jersey which was decommissioned and docked in Camden New Jersey. Great localism post.
Make it a great day !!
Thanks for sharing your photographs. This ship will be a wonderful attraction in the area.
Good morning Kristin -
What an excellent history post complete with outstanding photo's of The Battleship of Presidents..USS Iowa. I wish we were close enough to take a tour of this beauty and see her hands on ourselves.
Have a great Tuesday my friend in all you do.
John
Hi John,
Yes we plan to get advance tickets and go maybe in the middle of July. She is a grand ship and so much larger than the pictures even portray.
Thanks for stopping and enjoy seeing your ship in Camden.
Hi Roy,
We are excited about the ship being here in Southern California. They have so many things planned for the museum. Last week, the original crew got to all come aboard and celebrate. This must have been fun for the guys who served on it.
Hi John,
We are all ready for the tours to start. The only ship I have ever been on was the Queen Mary and the newer cruise ships so this will be so exciting. If the walls could talk.
I heard there is a bathtub in one of the rooms as it was installed for President Roosevelt.
Great shots Kristin -that looks like a fascinating place to visit. We have the Intrepid here and I have yet to go. It is on my list!
Hi Debra,
I know how those lists are.....too many places to go but never enough time. We finally get to all the places but it just takes a little longer.
Thanks for stopping and have a great week.
PS I was near your area several weeks ago. We flew into Philly and drove to Boston and took the I-95 all the way which took us through NY City. I did get some skyline pictures of NY but want to go there next summer and spend the entire week or more just visiting NYC and it surroundings. I hear it is a fascinating place.
Good pictures and interesting. I hear you about too many things to see and do. Be well Kristin.
Cal
Hi Cal,
Went to a KW event this morning in Palm Springs and it was very nice and educational. Killed the whole day pretty much so it just puts me behind. I have a long list of things to do for work and fun and very little time to get it all marked off.
Glad you like my USS Iowa pictures and post. Have a great week.
Kristin, thanks for sharing the history of the USS IOWA battleship and the great photographs.
Hi Kwee,
I am glad you enjoyed the pictures. It is an important part of the American history and frankly as large as it is and how many men (very few women I am sure) were on it at one time, that how it could stay afloat. I did not realize how large it was until I was there in person. My third picture was taken from a distance, and in that photo you can see how long it is on both sides. It makes all the other boats look tiny. I guess Warships must be huge to be intimidating and to carry 16 guns on deck too.
I love history.
Hi William,
I did not know that you had one. I might have to stop by and go for a tour soon.
When we were in San Diego about 6 months ago we saw the USS Ronald Reagan CVN-76 in port in San Diego. It was very impressive and very active. I read where they have over 5600 crew members on board. WOW!
LA is all hyped up over this Warship Museum. They already had a ceremony for the original crew members. That must have been a very inspirational event. I cannot wait to go inside and see it.
