Benicia Little League and Coach Joe, the inspiration that we all need

Normally on this blog I write about Benicia Property Management in one form or another. But this time I want to describe Coach Joe who coached our 5-6 year old Sea Dogs Benicia Little League Tee-Ball team.

The season has just ended and we celebrated with an after-season team party to get together as a Sea Dog family one last time.  Although Coach Joe, his assistant, Coach Benji, and great Team Mom Ashley, give all of the credit for our great season to the kids, I beg to differ.

Yes, Coach Joe did teach the baseball basics to these youngsters.

He also taught them to keep their eye on the ball.

Of course he taught them to always hustle

He made sure to teach them how to throw the ball

But, more importantly, he balanced teaching the Little League basics with a good old-fashioned great attitude.  He managed to constantly encourage the kids but not coddle them.  He managed to challenge them to improve themselves while always recognizing their different skill levels. He was full of praise, phrases like "I'm proud of you" and even stopping a game to give the kids a High-Five after they made a nice play.  He made it fun.

He made sure that he taught them teamwork.

He also taught them good sportsmanship.

He taught these youngsters that if you try hard, practice the basics and have fun, nothing else matters.

Through his teachings, our young Sea Dogs continued to impress as the season passed.  At every game they were more focused, gave more heart and just plain seemed to have more fun than the other teams.

In all reality, Coach Joe taught more than Tee-Ball.  He gave these youngsters an important early lesson in working towards a goal and achieving the goal.  He did all of this while remaining humble himself.

That old saying of “It takes a village to raise a child” is so true and Coach Joe and Coach Benji are great village members to have.  So, it is a bit sad that the season has ended.  But, it is great that we enjoyed the season as much as we did.  Thank you for a great Benicia Little League season and for being great coaches to our children.  Thank you for helping to make Benicia a special place to live.

See you next season...

Mark,

Our children are now young adults, yet we still talk about the days they played baseball and T-ball was the best.

Mark, our youngest just finished his first year of college and I so miss our soccer days. Playing sports is so enriching for children.

Hey Mark,

Coach Joe sounds like a great guy, and our children need great men and women in their lives as role models.  I don't have children so I think of my neices and nephews these days.  Best of success to you this year!
