For the first time in 40 years, the Kips Bay Decorator Show House is taking place on the Upper West Side, at The Aldyn, 60 Riverside Boulevard. A Show House has been created in each of the two penthouses, featuring 12,000 square feet of glamour, magic and inspiration. The Hudson River views, terraces with private pools and extraordinary plantings are just spectacular.
This 40th Anniversary of the Show House is a banner year for the Kips Bay Boys & Girls Club. The Show House helps support 12,000 talented young people in NYC who need a safe haven for mentoring opportunities, making lasting friendships and learning life skills. Throughout the past 39 years, The Kips Bay Boys & Girls Club has challenged designers to test their boundaries and 2012 is no exception.
What struck me most about the each space was the designers' use of color and texture. Wallpaper featured significantly in each space with grasscloths adding warmth and texture in many of the rooms. One room in particular, called The Cabana, designed by Scott Sanders, was a guest room that combined whimsy, function and just plain fun. In contrast, a Gentlemen's Study by David Scott Interiors also used grasscloth for warmth and sophistication.
It was a great day, the weather was gorgeous overlooking the Hudson and frankly, we were tempted to jump into those private pools but we forgot to bring a change of clothing. Oh Well...
The Kips Bay Decorator Show House runs through June 14, so if you are in the area, try to make some time.
