Bryan-College Station Celebrates JuneteenthJuneteenth has been an annual Texas tradition since 1980.  Each year, Texans celebrate the emancipation of slaves in the state.  Slavery in Texas ended on June 19, 1865.  As an official Texas holiday, Bryan-College Station will be celebrating Juneteenth over several days and in several ways.

WEDNESDAY, JUNE 13
Clara B Mounce Public Library - From 10am to 12pm, the library (located at 201 E 26th St in Bryan) will be hosting a carnival that includes inflatable fun, balloons, typical carnival games, plenty of activities and a children's art festival.  Schwan's is even providing free ice cream

THURSDAY, JUNE 14
Lincoln Recreation Center - Beginning at 9am, participants in the Freedom Walk will begin their 1.82 mile trek from the center (located at 1000 Eleanor St, College Stationto the George Bush Presidential Library and Museum (1000 George Bush Dr W, College Station).

FRIDAY, JUNE 15
Lincoln Recreation Center - Carnival Night begins at 5:30pm with tons of carnival games, activities and fun for the entire family.  The center's splash park will officially open this evening as well.

SUNDAY, JUNE 17
Lincoln Recreation Center - Local band Golden Groove will play their blend of jazz, blues and R&B at 6pm.  What a nice relaxing way to celebrate Father's Day!

MONDAY, JUNE 18
WA Tarrow Park - Listen to singers lift their voices in heavenly tribute to our state's past at 7pm in the pavilion (107 Holleman Dr, College Station).

All Juneteenth celebration events in Bryan-College Station are absolutely free to the public.  There's no reason not to bring the family out for some fun and remembrance beginning tomorrow, June 13, 2012.
