Self-motivated business people often become consumed with their work, especially in the world of sales professionals, whose compensation is based on performance.  Additionally, the income of Independent Contractors is not barred by a ceiling of achievement.  A sky is the limit earning potential is an easy addiction for talented agents, who love what they do.  I don't think I'm necessarily a talented Realtor, yet I am extremely driven and fortunate that my wife and business partner, is one of the best in the business.  The more time I invest in our real estate business, the more it grows and consequently, the more of a challenge it becomes to stay focused on what really matters in life.  I needed to listen close to what Jairek Robbins, the talented and inspirational son of his larger than life father, Tony Robbins, had to say on June 7, 2012.

I was invited to attend an REO mastermind event in Denver, Colorado by a colleague at Keller Williams Realty.  Jairek, being friends with the president of the group, agreed to be the final guest speaker of what turned out to be a very productive day of masterminding on everything from foreclosures to Short Sales.  Little did I know at the time that Jarek's speaking engagements are somewhat like stealth missions to change lives.  I'm not sure I am in the right state of mind to live my mission or even sure that I'm ready to clearly define my mission in life.  That said, I did pay close attention to his message and plan to prepare myself for change.

The theme of Jairek's presentation was exactly this, the question or questions we ask ourselves each morning about our lives or life in general is what define us in that moment.  For instance, if we question our very existence on a daily basis, then we are likely to walk around in a state of constant uncertainty and stifle our ability to find fulfillment in life.  If your question has not set you on a path to success, Jairek simply states that all you need to do to change your life, is to change your question.  The literal formula for this life altering equation is calculated in this order: Your questions determine what you focus on, what you focus on you feel, how you feel is how you show up, how you show up determines your results. Thus, change your question + change your results = change your life!

There are three keys to controlling your state of mind:

  • What you focus on you feel.
  • How you move your body, will determine how you feel.
  • What you say to yourself is how you will feel.
If you are focused on your problems, walking around with a slumped posture and your words are consistently negative, then what does your day look and feel like?  Jairek asked us to consider this: "What would I have to believe to be passionate about what I am doing?"  In other words, simply change your perception.  The only thing that is permanent in life is change, so change your perception or change your procedure.  How we do one thing is how we do anything.  So, are we getting the results we want out of life or do we need to make a change?

There were several other aspects of Jairek's speech that had an impact but my favorite was his advice on how to architect success.  He said that his dad began to model the behaviors of successful people and I believe that he found and unexpected road map to an incredibly rewarding life.  Keep in mind, that the Robbins' Family, at least father and son, define a successful life in this way, can one answer yes to the following questions:
  • Did I really love?
  • Did I really live?
  • Did I really matter?
If you can't answer with an emphatic "Yes!" at this point in life, then Jairek might tell you to change your question to: "What has to happen in life for me to really love, to really live and to really matter?"

According to his son, this is what Tony Robbins discovered on his mission to learn from great achievers, beginning with a checklist of daily actions, which need to be focused on your "Majors" or in more familiar real estate terminology, the 20% of you actions that deliver 80% of our results.  You must examine your "Big Why" or what motivates you to succeed and find a reason within that is bigger than yourself.  A good start would be to ask yourself: "How many people can I help in a unique way?"  Next, become aware of the fact that the more you care (the deeper the meaning behind the action) the more you make, as true gratitude is the key to true wealth!

This was a pretty deep and emotional presentation.  Some of his points caused me to get lost for long minutes at a time in retrospection.  With that in mind, I hope I've been to coherently deliver, what I believe to be, an important life lesson from a very humble genius.  Regardless of my interpretation of this event in Denver, I implore you to do whatever it takes to receive Jeriek's message in person.  Tell everyone you hear looking for a guest speaker, that they simply have to book Jairek Robbins or hop on a plane and go to him!
