A SNAP-SHOT OF MINOT NORTH DAKOTA TODAY, 06/13/2012

When I say a snap-shot of today I am saying that this is NOT a comprehensive picture. This is just one mans general view. Like the snap-shot below it doesn't give you a lot of information but hopefully gives you something.

Minot ND is growing at an unbelievable pace. Last year, 2011, we set new records for growth and now just 6 month later we have already shattered the total growth of 2011. Minot is very much the land of opportunity today.

Over the past 10 years we have had steady growth due to the expansion of The Minot Air Force Base. Today our unprecedented growth is due to the largest oil find in the history of the world.

Two years ago our population was about 32,000. Today a good guess would be 45,000. We are predicted by many to reach 100,000 in the next 5 years.

This kind of growth requires a lot of workers and today (as a snap-shot) we could fill 5,000+ jobs just as it is. All positions need filling, especially construction. Pizza delivery people are earning about $15.00 an hour, secretaries can almost name their wage. Retailers are offering great packages with signing bonuses, the money is flowing like a Capitalists dream.

The Bad News

Housing! That is it in a word. An average 50+ year old home in average shape is selling for $200,000. Small 2 bedroom apartments are renting for $1,500. a month if you can find one. If you want an apartment the only way you will get one is to rent sight unseen because if you don't the next 100 people in line will. A motel room... good luck unless you have more money then Hess Oil or Halliburton.

People are making fortunes here every day. People are feeding their families and prospering here in Western North Dakota. Come be part of it, bring a tent.

Hi Barbara! Actually I hate this market. My typical client can not afford the crazy prices going on here. I've spent countless hours working with contractors new to town only to have them go to a bigger agency after I've spent days, weeks, and even months helping them get a handle on the market and even lining up financing for them. It's very frustrating when they swear up and down that they will be loyal "to the one who brought them to the dance". I'm beginning to wonder if there is ONE honest Christian builder out there.

Housing is always the key...sometimes it's the chicken and the egg dilemma!  If only we had jobs...there are plenty of homes!
