I think I have participated in maybe two or three contests on ActiveRain.  Not much participation considering I have been on here for over five years!

But I am beginning to maybe re-think my attitude toward the contests

Why?

I participated in the recent FAQ Break Into Summer Organized Contest.  Basically it involved writing ten posts answering frequently asked questions.  To me the ten posts here was like a ladder to be climbed.

Writing is difficult for me.

I am not a prolific writer.  Only ten of my previous 590 posts was featured. Yes, that is a humbling one per fifty nine posts.

Then during the course of this contest I had three of the ten featured! On top of that I had five re-blogged which is a nice honor.

This tells me that maybe ActiveRain contests…..

  • Serve as a motivator,
  • Increase the chance of recognition by peers,
  • Help with the point count. [I know it is not all about points but still the 6,000+ points was a nice benefit],
  • Increase my subscriber count,

And most importantly mean more search engine recognition.

Gary, you are absolutely right about Active Rain playing a huge role in our business. It's really interesting not only sharpen your skills as a writer but getting to know lots of agents.
