Flag Day 2012 is today.  Actually, many of you already know that it is always celebrated on June 14th     You should see it proudly waving in your daily travels.  What does it represent to you?  To many it is the symbol of our nation stating that we are ......one nation, under God, with liberty and justice for all.  Yes, the Pledge of Allegiance is how we salute her with hands over our heart or a military salute.  We owe her much!  She waves from Earth to the moon in honor of America and those who defend or have defended this great country.

The American Flag

How do we show her at least a minimum of respect?  We all should know these basics.  Let's begin!

Fly our flag from sunrise to sunset and if it is lighted well, keep it waving through the night.  The Colors should not be flown during rain or other inclement weather.

Always fly it with the field of blue at the top.  When in print the field is always to the left.  When worn on uniform sleeves the field is always pointing forward.

The flag should be hoisted briskly each morning and lowered slowly in the evening.

NEVER let your flag touch the ground ever!

Always fold your flag properly if you know how or simply fold it when in storage.  It is not to be bunched or crumpled and placed in a heap somewhere.  Again, respect is in order.

Flags should be retired when they're worn and old not simply thrown out with the trash.  They are usually burned during a ceremony which I believe the Boy Scouts of America still conduct.  If you've never been to one of these make it a point to attend at least one, very enlightening.

Kevin,

Both Ron and I are proud to be Americans.  As much as we have traveled to wonderful destinations, we are always happy to be home in the US.  My mother who was French often talked about moving back to France.  On a trip there with her, we looked around Paris for suitable places for her, none of them pleased her.  She later admitted, she loved being an American and visiting France was better than living there. Ron & Alexandra, it seems I am always finding people who say they don't like it here.  When I ask why do you stay it often brings about silence.  I have traveled to many places and like you and your Mom find that there is no other place like America.  Your comment is a perfect example of what I mean.
