One of my favorite home stagers is Sharon Tara in New Hampshire.  In a recent post she shows us how Home Stagers can help you with one of the first steps in preparing your home for sale and that is choosing a paint color.

Neutral doesn't mean cold white or boring beige. Notice her before and after photos.  By painting the walls a beautiful taupe, it served to act as a backdrop to the fireplace, which almost disappears in the Before photo.

Before you pick up that paint brush, call a professional home stager!

NH Home Staging FAQ -  Can You Help Me Choose Paint Colors?

color fan deckProbably the most frequently asked question I get, as a New Hampshire Home Stager, has to do with paint color selection.

Most Home Staging consults result in a room or more needing paint....usually involving the choice of a new color.

Yes, I can help you choose the colors.  Color selection is a crucial part of any Home Stager's services.

When preparing your house for sale it's best to use neutral colors to appeal to the broadest range of buyers.  It's the interpretation of "neutral" that confuses most sellers.  Builders beige or white are what come to mind, but that's not what home stagers recommend.

Neutral doesn't mean cold and sterile.  You want colors that are warm and inviting.  You want colors that compliment your furnishings and floors.  Don't paint every room a different color. Sticking to just two or three colors (plus trim color) throughout the house, creates a smooth flow from room to room.

Paint color can make or break a room.  It can compensate for negative features and it can enhance the positive.  Professional advice on the choice of color can save you time and money.

Home Selling Tip:  Meet with a stager PRIOR to meeting with your painter.  I've had clients tell me "we just had it painted" when I recommend they change a room color.   OOPS!

yes go neutral, but still have folks that paint rooms purple, green and with wild wallpaper too! that is just asking the buyer to think... hmm lower the price because I have to repaint (neutral no less!)

I love picking colors....even in new construction, we no longer give them just white or off white. However, tasful and neutral.

Thanks for the reblog Kathy!  Choosing color is not always easy, especially if it's for your own home!  When I chose this color the seller was a bit nervous at first.  She loved the results, though.
