"Sailabration" Festivities in Baltimore for the Bicentennial!

sailabration in baltimoreWow - the Spar Spangled Sailabration in Baltimore is a spectacular event to celebrate 200 years of history!  Tall ships from all over the world arrived into Baltimore on Tuesday evening and will be docked in several locations over the weekend.  These gorgeous boats can be found at the Inner Harbor, Fells Point, Ft. McHenry and Locust Point.


The organizers in Baltimore have been working on this event for many years and it has finally arrived.  A free shuttle runs to the Ft. McHenry area and Locust Point from M&T Bank Stadium (Ravens Stadium) where you can park for $20 a car.  There are plenty of lots in the city but be prepared to walk and you can easily spend several hours or more enjoying the sights and sounds.  From Catonsville you can also go in on the lightrail from the BWI station.

We popped down to the Inner Harbor  on Thursday morning around 10:00 am with 2 adults and 4 kids and found parking in a lot right across the street from the harbor. The area was already hopping but not as crowded as it was by noon.  By then the whole harbor had the festive feeling of the 4th of July!  Tons of locals and tourists, lots of families with kids of all ages and grandparents as well.  

The international ships blanketed the harbor with boats and crews from Mexico, Indonesia, Ecuador and Brazil.  We toured the beautiful Dewaruci from Indonesia which was docked near the historic Constellation which is a regular fixture in the harbor.

Blue angelsThe weekend events include music and concerts and the amazing Blue Angels will have free air shows on both Saturday and Sunday afternoon.  

It's a must see - We are heading back on Saturday to take pictures and enjoy the festivities.
