Making sure it happens

When you open an email and see a not so pleasant message about a party in a transaction underway blasting someone for "not doing their job" you cringe.  Well at least I did.  It was a unique situation that caused a delay.  I really just can't go into too many details without a compromise to the privacy of the involved parties.  But in the end every person involved in a transaction is a human with a heart. Even the hardest of hearts can be reached if you try.

What I can tell you is that a representative of the bank that owned the property was NOT at ALL happy that things were not progressing on the time line.  The listing agent was just asking questions about if we were going to close. (like am I going to get paid of questions)  The buyer was between a rock and hard place because when your boss's boss's boss is the Commander in Chief you really can't say "I can't make it work today, I have a closing to go to".  It was complicated and tempers were hot all around.

So I did my best to calm and defuse, I wrote an email back.  I explained the delay cause in the best detail I could and apologized over and over.  I did not blame anyone and I gave credit to the people who I could tell were working super hard on behalf of my client who was not at all to blame.  You know that old saying about catching flies with honey right?  I told the complete truth and I asked kindly for special consideration due to circumstances my buyer never expected. Not only did my buyer close today as planned, that person who typed that "this is way we do it and you have broker the rules" email yesterday typed a "thank you" email to me today for my apology in asking her to bend the time line to accommodate my client.

And my client's family can't start to move in until tomorrow, but they closed.  I will give them their keys in the morning.  And trust me, this wasn't about my paycheck.  This was about my client.  I put my client first and worked really hard to get this done for them.  And I appreciate their loan officer and closing attorney that did the same.  I feel totally great that this client closed on their first home today.

Tammy, taking the high road with a cooler head is always the way to go. I try..... Funny, I had an email the other day where an attorney gave a rediculous time line for something he didn't need to give a time line for, he almost blew the deal. Refused to take an email about something from the other attorney, the other party, or me. But what I found most interesting is, we all had to give in to this behavior.

Good job!

Tammy - when it comes down close to the end, it's always more about making the clients happy and doing your job than the paycheck. It's what we do. Good job!

Carla- start to finish as long as they are not unreasonable I put my clients first.  Was so happy to give them the keys.

Andrea- I hate when that happens, but time and time again it seems like it does.

Toni- yes, it's what we do.

Put 40 years of experience to work for you

I can tell that you are the kind of person who sees the big picture, Tammy. You get out of the way and you make the transaction happen, which is part of what makes you such a great agent. So many times people let their emotions get in the way, and they can end up cutting off their nose to spite their face. You can be dead right and just not close. It's much better to be apologetic if that's what it takes and get it closed than to be absolutely right. Your clients are lucky to have such a level-headed agent.

Excellent job, Tammy.  It is tempting to react rather than act.  You obviously handled this beautifully.

Cooler and nicer heads always prevail.  Glad you kept everything glued together while another party was busy ripping it apart.

I think every LOVES the picture you took too Mona.  Thanks again.  And I'm so happy I got to meet you.  I was just telling a newer member that the learning is great, the leaders are fabulous but the people are the absolute best.
