Toni Weidman is a person who cares for animals and has written a wonderful post about animal shelters. I totally agree with her title "What All Shelters Should Be". The quote at the beginning of the video by Gandhi says a lot.

The Washington Animal Rescue League - What All Shelters Should Be
The Washington DC Animal Rescue League has what I would term a model shelter for animals. They rescue, medicate, educate the public, and really care for the creatures that come under their wing. The problem with most shelters, including the one that I’m involved with, is the lack of money. The SPCA Suncoast in New Port Richey gets NO public funding; we rely on the community, donations, and fundraising efforts.
The video takes about 8 min. but if you believe in rescue, you need to see it. They have a program to treat the animals of low or no-income people so that the animals can remain with the owners.. 1,000 animals pass through the shelter each year.Their education program is outstanding. I wish we had the funds to emulate them. I wish all shelters had the funds to emulate them.
The SPCA Suncoast could use more volunteers, more donations, more towels, detergent, bleach, litter, cat and dog food, more everything. We are located at 7734 Congress Street, New Port Richey, FL. Open Wed-Sunday Noon-6pm. 727-849-1048
