Yes - this isn't the best photo - but considering I was riding my bike and taking the shot at the same - not too bad!
When you ride your bike enough - especially if you ride the same path regularly - you tend to recognize the other "regulars". I often ride the Mt Lemmon highway and though I don't talk to many people going down - I do on the way up - because you ride slower and have a little more time to say hi!
A little explanation of riding Mt Lemmon for the average person: from the base of Mt Lemmon it's 27 miles uphill. To get to the base (because there is no parking along the road) - typically cyclists ride an additional 10 miles to get there. The average person rides at a pace of about 8-10 minutes per mile uphill. Pro cyclists knock out a mile in less than 5 minutes.
This man and his dog ride Mt Lemmon three to four times a week. And that little pup sits in the carrier, patiently, watching over his best friend without ever barking or seeming impatient. This particular day - I briefly talked to this man and he told me they were going to ride to mile post 14 - he figured it would take him three hours. Would the pup sit still for that long? I asked.
"Oh much longer than that he said! She's the best friend a man could ever want!"
I would say so!
