I'm Tired Of Celebrating Holidays

I need to brush up on my lesser-known holidays like Flag Day.  It was yesterday.  I will proudly display my flag and am so happy to have the opportunity to do so.  But, at this time in my life, I think I will start celebrating those poor days throughout the year that are neglected and play second fiddle to the biggies like Easter and Thanksgiving.

Celebrate Flag Day

Won't you join me in taking part in some of these spectacular reason to pause and give thanks or take action?  Hey, maybe a postcard to your sphere is in order!  Enjoy a new holiday to celebrate each month!

January 18-National Thesaurus Day.  Boost your vocabulary and find new words for describing that "gorgeous" house!  This day marks the birthday of Peter Roget, the creator of the thesaurus, back in 1779.

February 14-Ferris Wheel Day.  Ferris Wheel Day commemorates the birthday of George Washington Gale Ferris, Jr., the creator of the first Ferris Wheel. Austria, a country in love with their Ferris Wheels, also claims to have created this day. Their claim is that this date was chosen because in Austria this is historically the most weather friendly day of the year.

March 3-If Pets Had Thumbs Day.  Begs (pun intended) the question...if thumbs are the only things keeping Man's Best Friend from being human, would they take over the world on March 3?

April 11-Eight Track Tape Day.  I remember driving in my mom's silver Cadillac Eldorado with red pleather seats listening to Barry Manilow and The Four Seasons on eight track.  Oohhhhh yeaaahhhh!!!

May 9-Lost Sock Memorial Day.  No longer will I jump for joy for the birth of my third child but instead, Lost Sock Memorial Day.  This holiday recognizes your drawer full of unmatched socks. Each unmatched sock represents a missing sock. We never throw away our unmatched socks. After all, it may show up someday.

June 19-World Sauntering Day.  It's not a jog, it's not a trot.  It's more of a stroll.  The dictionary defines sauntering as walking along slowly, happily and aimlessly. This day was created in the 1970's by W. T. Rabe at Mackinac Island, Michigan while he was the Public Relations Director for a hotel on the island. Rabe was well known for his publicity stunts.

July 10-Teddy Bear Picnic Day.  I'm so putting this in my calendar to celebrate with my kids!  Can't wait for that!

August 14-Presidential Joke Day.  On August 11, 1984, just before his regular Saturday radio address, President Ronald Reagan was doing a voice test with the microphone. He thought the microphone and the feed was not live. He joked into the microphone: "My fellow Americans, I am pleased to tell you I just signed legislation which outlaws Russia forever. The bombing begins in five minutes." To his surprise, he was speaking to a live feed!

September 19-International Talk Like a Pirate Day.  Argh me hearties!  On the search fer thar dabloons?  I am just reminded of the movie Dodgeball.  Classic.

Dodgeball

October 2-Name Your Car Day.  I have yet to name my car yet and it's been six years.  Some appropriate names would be "Spoiled Milk", "The Cracker Car", or "Junkyard Diva".  Growing up, our family's van was Bessie.  Any good names for your wheels?

November 17-Take A Hike Day.  That could be a fitness activity or telling someone it's about that time.

December 23-Festivus.  The holiday for the restivus.  Need I say more?  Grab your aluminum pole.

I remember Reagan doing that too...I miss the days when Presidents had guts and were not so sensitive to everyone.

Wow you really found some remote holidays there.  Flag Day certainly takes precedence over the rest on your list.
