Summer is back, so what are you waiting for?
Whether it's the best foods to grill, the comfiest furniture to lounge on or the perfect backyard setup, here's to getting the most from summer 2012.
The Barbecue
- One of today's hottest trends is stuffed burgers. Create your own by forming patties around fillings like cheese, bacon, even chutney.
- Try this restaurant trick at home. Add mesquite or hickory wood chips to charcoal to add a subtle smoky flavor to meat.
- Grilled pizza can become your new go-to dinner. Make or buy your dough, add your favorite toppings and throw it on the barbecue.
Outdoor Living
- As long as local regulations permit it, add a fire pit to your outdoor living space. There's nothing better than inviting a few friends over on a Sunday evening for a nice, relaxing evening by the fire.
- Outdoor pillows look great on your wicker furniture or patio set. Better yet, they make great floor cushions. You can get them in fun, bright colors and materials specially designed for the outdoors.
-
They don't call it an outdoor living room for nothing. Jazz up your backyard space with fun accents. Raid your living room for decorative planters and mirrors. Don't forget bright linens and unbreakable tableware and glasses for the outdoor dining room.

In South Florida we barbecue all year round.
Summer is just a bit warmer, and the ocean is warmer.
Stuffed burgers sounds good until you look at the calories.
I'm not familiar with stuffed burgers but everything else on the grill tastes great. What can be nicer than outdoor living?
I love the summer and the living is easier.. Nothing to shovel here on the east coast!
Summer's here (maybe not on the calendar until next week but at least with tempatures) and I'm ready... Thanks, David!
I am totally going to try your pizza idea. I grill at least two to three times a week during the summer, but haven't thought to try pizza (I use a Boboli crust in the oven). Thanks for the idea.

I really like that wood that you used on your outdoor deck. It looks like that new type of material that is supposed to last much longer and hold up better than the old types of material. I'm looking forward to outdoor living this summer too.
David - The idea of stuffed burgers sounds great. My husband adds lot of flavor with different kinds of wood.
Outdoors are fun in summer! And having a nice set up adds to the enjoyment. Calling your friends over drinks and barbecue is a cool way to beat the heat. It is therfore advisable to do up your outdoor area well. It requires nothing much, just a nice seating with throw over cusions and good lamps or a fireplace. And Voila! The summer sert up is ready.
David, you're making me hungry for a burger. This would be a great way to spend Farther's Day tomorrow.
Don't forget your citronella candles! Don't want a perfect outdoor activity ruined by some pesky bugs. But I love this post. Makes me want to go outside with a good book and wait for the evening to come.
David,
I could not agree more, down here in Texas we take our BBQ pretty seriously. Just don't insult someones ribs or brisket if you want to get invited back. We only have one problem. Summer, our summers are 100 days of over 100 degrees. Its why homes with pools are where most gatherings occur.

We ate on our deck last night - had lunch today . . . we are planning a few summer get togethers. I love this time of year when we can enjoy our deck!
Hi David, how inviting your photo looks. This is perfect lifestyle advertising. Well done!!
