This month’s ActiveRain challenge is a simple one for most of us…except for the youngest among us. You know, the one’s who have always had a remote control, cell phone and the Internet..

Which Mobile Device or Application Allows You to Remain on the Go?

Which one device improves my productivity, time management and client communication and frees me from the tether of “the office?”

To me the answer is not one single device but the synergistic effect of all taken together. You see it is not one of these but the ability to use any or all together that allows us to leave the office in the morning and be out all day yet handle anything that may arise back at “the office.”

What are these miracle tools?

Let’s see…

  • Smart phone – Can you imagine if you had to have someone take messages at the office for you? Appointment changes, canceled showings, missed inquiries from prospective clients, running late messages and the like?
  • Email – Quick, more efficient than pen and paper. Instant response.
  • Laptop/Notebook – Well this is now a thing of the past for me since the advent of the…Ipad
  • Electronic signature applications – Saving paper, saving time….enough said!
  • GPS/Navigation Systems - No stopping for directions and mapping out showing routes.

I guess when taken together all the above things have one thing in common that has allowed the flexibility most of us enjoy in the day to day real estate business world....

Wireless networks.

Yes, that is the tool that allows the mobility we must have every day or else!

As for the title reference to listings in a binder...I really don't remember those days but I have read comments and posts here through the years that told of those days.  Were those the good old days of real estate?

Good post! I do remember the days of receiving the daily MLS sheets and filing them in binders. Today I couldn't imagine working without my navigation and I phone, we are so spoiled!

i remember sending listings to clients by mail, picking up six keys at six offices for six showings etc.

the best thing out of the techno boom is that people are getting more information and question the daily propaganda they are subjected to.

Joan - We are indeed spoiled and it is nice. Thanks!

Bianca - I bet picking up keys was fun! Electronic lock boxes are so nice and convenient. Thanks!

Gary I remember the books when I was looking for a house, but never worked in real estate during that period.

Gary, thanks for sharing a piece of the real estate history. Many agents including myself do not experience the listings were all in the binders. Wishing you a Happy Father's Day.

Gary, I remember in 1996 when I started in the business we carried around a thick MLS book, full of properties for sale.  Often, the info was out of date before the book was printed.  Technology has made our lives so much easier.

Kathy - I would have never guess you were out of school 25 years ago....!
Jennifer - I am with you. I remember consulting with an agent looking for rentals and he pulled out the book.
Kwee - Thanks!
Sandy - It has...and I would have never made it in those days as I am just not organized enough.
Wireless is key! Thanks!
Roy - Thanks!

Sometimes this Cloud and Wireless stuff scares me.  What will we do when it goes down?

Gary you really nailed it, the great thing about all this technology is that it makes being organized soooo much easier for those of us to whom it is not second nature.

Gabe - You are right...scary when we don't have a signal for a half hour!

Laura - Technology makes it easy for sloppy folks like me. Easier to look for a file on a computer than on my desk!
