During my short lifetime, the role of the father as the patriarch and provider of the family has changed dramatically!

Back in the day, we lived life as a 1950’s television show with dad going off to work and mom staying home with the kids. But the “traditional” family has changed a lot since then and has been transformed over the decades!

Today, tradition has yielded to pragmatism, and fathers and mothers both contribute to all aspects of child rearing and nurturing. But that does not diminish the significance of either parent. Rather, it enhances and embellishes the cumulative effect of parenting!

And so on Father’s Day it is both fitting and appropriate that we not only reflect on fathers as individuals that we love and respect, but also on the importance they had in molding us into the people that we are today.

As the circle of life continues, we can do our best to pass on to our own children and grandchildren the spirit of what our fathers imbedded in us.

Happy Father’s Day to all of the Dads! I hope that you have a great day!

Richard, it is so important since roles have changed so much...i list many houses where the father is now the house husband and the wife brings home the bacon...such switching of roles but all the more important for them to be in their children's lives.  Happy Father's Day!

Society is becoming more and more brainwashed to think that either mother or father are not needed in child bearing. This lie is more prevalent today than ever before. What the state of affairs will like 20-30 years from now, does not look positive for a healthy society.

My Daddy is fabulous.  Of course as a teenager I didn't always think that... and I'm sure the kids didn't always think it of my Donald either, but someday they will.

Richard -

Hope you enjoy a great Fathers Day!  Debbie and I will go to the Butterfly Unit to see my Dad today.  He won't know me, be able to communicate or move much.  My Dad is lost in the world of Alhimer's... the longest good bye ever.  I miss my Dad and long to hear his jokes and poking fun at me just one more time.

I can honestly say I have not a single bad word to say about my Dad. He just left this Earth far to early and I'm sure there was much more he could of taught me as an adult.

Well said Richard!

I think the change where both parents contribute for the child is a change for the better. And in fact I think it used to be this way with fathers passing down skills. At some point this was lost but now it is back

I love that the roles have changed.  I think my kids benefit so much from having a father who is an active participant in their upbrining.

Happy Father's Day to you!

I do believe that many of us do not realize how important our Fathers (and Mothers) were i our lives until much later in life.
